I now understand why Olga has such a high opinion of this rose-seems to be what growing roses is all about.

I ordered a band of this in the spring, and it has just had its first flower; large, perfect form and perfect fragrance.

It is near a MIP, which has not yet flowered. I must say that, so far, these two appear to have better foliage than some higher recommended in that regard (e.g,-hybrid musks, buck roses, julia child, morning has broken).

And speaking of good foliage (again, so far), I am impressed by Strike it Rich, which is also getting ready to show its first flower.

Mine's been in the ground a year, and its flowers are absolutely divine. Mine is really puny, though. It doesn't seem to want to put on much new growth. I don't know if I should give it better food, or just be a lot more patient, but I'm getting a little bit frustrated with its scrawniness -- especially now that someone else posted pictures of *their* second year Dr. Reynaud, and it was ginormous!

Gosh, what a fragrance, though. And I love the color.

I love oblisks! I've had one for three years and can't get a rose to climb it! I had Souvenir du Dr. Jamain in it for 2 years and he never grew (he's back in a pot regaining his strength), and last year I put Jeanne Lajoie in it...she shot a a few nice basels...then came winter and the rabbits! So now, we wait......and hopefully she grows well this year! Tammy

Thank you so much for the input! And apologies for my delay in responding. My internet connection decided to act up this week. Olga, I'm glad to hear that yours is planted so close to the fence. I squinted so hard at your photos trying to gauge it, but of course, it's hard to judge from a picture, especially when your roses always have such incredible foliage. The fence is quite long, so if Dr Reynaud wants to grow those monster canes, he has the space to do so. I hope he does! Alexis and Rosefolly, thank you! It's good to hear confirmation from people in climates more like my own. Right now, my baby is acting more like Marcel Proust than like a "hunk" per se. He's got a touch of PM. Already! Oh, *rose.* Ah, well. It's been a bad spring for it here, and I knew when I decided to accept a Bourbon into my garden that my no-spray days were almost certainly over. I'm still hoping that he'll improve in the ground. All of my roses have become much healthier once they're planted. I don't think that I have any knack at all for tending to them in pots.

In my experience color of these two roses is identical. If I cut one bloom from DdDR and another one from MIP, I would not be able to say which is which. I am still not convinced these are two different roses. Olga

Haha! Yes! That was *just* the picture I was thinking of! It made me envious. Especially since you're training yours in exactly the same way along the fence that I am trying to train mine -- if only it would make those nice long canes for me. It seems so far reluctant to oblige me.

I will try to be more patient.
