How long should a chain on a chainsaw last in oak please?
Comments (50)Dirt and fine saw dust mixed with oil will eventually plug up the bar and oil feeder holes. Even if you don't hit dirt, dirt still inbedded in the bark. Caked up debri will also lodge in and around the clutch area and cover. The other BIG mistake is not keeping the slack adjusted out of the chain. Which usually has to be done about every tank full of gas. You must clean you chain and bar regularly, Now for me thats at least every other use. I can't stand a dirty saw. You can look at the chain and if the wood is burnt on to the teeth and you have to take a pocket knife and scrape it off you chain getting little oil. even if I am very careful not letting my chain hit dirt it still needs to be cleaned after a days use. this included removing the bar running a wire or small screwdriver down the bar groove knocking all the stuck junk out. I use carb. cleaner it works great for me. I also hang my chain up and spray it down then scrub it with a nylon or brass brush, now that I got the bar and chain pristine clean, I crank up the air compressor and blow out the clutch, clutch cover, around the cooling fins, and exit slot on the pull rope side. Now I reassemble, adjust the chain tension, and hit the chain teeth about 3 or 4 strokes with a file. Now the saw is clean, sharp, and ready for storage till my next cutting job. IMO the worse thing you can do is put your equipment up dirty, especially if it's not used often. We've all seen them the mower decks with the big grass lumps on top of them, chain saws with the big burnt spots on the bar ect.... Now to answer the question how long the chain will last????? Till you sharpen the teeth off of them or they get sharpen down to a nub and break off. that's how long the will last. some will say this is overkill, but for me I like a well preforming piece of equipment, just makes the job easier IMO....See MoreHow long do seeds last?
Comments (29)To give you an idea how long you can store seeds in the freezer, I just finished these up three years ago: Germination wasn't great, but it was OK. But when seeds get this old, I think the seedlings lose some vigor. About small seeds: I have some rare plant seeds that are nearly microscopic. They are still germinating well after 21 years. Just about every kind of seed keeps well in the freezer for me. There might be exceptions, but I don't think there are very many. But you've got to be careful not to freeze seeds that have high moisture content, and be very careful with seeds of tropicals. For storing individual types of seed, I use coin envelopes of various sizes. Then they go into airtight containers. I use canning jars, peanut butter jars, etc. I like the big peanut butter jars because they have a large diameter lid. That makes it easy to put big seed packets in. You can fit 30 or 40 big seed packets in one peanut butter jar. The number 28 on the seed packet shown above is my collection number. I keep track of all my seeds in a simple table in Microsoft Word. Collection number, variety name, date purchased or collected. If your table gets real long, you can use the "Find" feature in Word to search for a particular entry. The best freezer to use for seed storage is manual defrost. Self-defrost is OK, but it isn't going to give you as good storage life, because the temperature inside the freezer keeps going up and down. It's still a lot better than room temperature though. Germination will never be better than when they are fresh. If they were germinating 0% when you bought them, don't expect miracles when you take them out of the freezer. Comments (34)Mayflowers, I felt that way about Longmire at first, too, when comparing it to Justified. I decided to accept the fact that it was an hour-long procedural first with season-long story arcs second. And I don't know that the casting is poor as much as the writing and character development isn't as deep as on Justified. But I stuck with it and really got to like it. Of course it's filmed near me, so maybe I have a local bias. On that note if anyone is a sic fi fan, consider Battlestar Galactica (2003). It stars Katee Sackhoff (Vic on Longmire) among others....See MoreAny long-term experience with Delta 9192T-DST touch faucet?
Comments (1)I have no experience with this Delta Faucet. I do have 13 years experience with a regular Delta kitchen faucet and a Tapmaster hands free water system. Both have been flawless for 13 years. It's MUCHO more convenient than a system where you have to touch the faucet or wave your hands in front of it. It requires no electricity or batteries. It uses your existing plumbing valve system under the sink and connects to a "plate" you attach on the toekick of your cabinets. A simple touch of your toe to the front of the toekick turns the water on and off. You can press down on top of the plate to lock the system "on" and use the faucet normally. It's like having 3 or 4 hands. Takes about 1/2 day to get use to and in 6 weeks it was so automatic, I wasn't even conscientiously thinking "water". It just appeared when I needed it before I even realized I needed it :) Keeps the faucet and surrounding area much cleaner and dryer, less cross contamination, saves water, increases productivity. We now have them on all the sinks in the house. LOVE it! These have been used for years and years in dentists, Dr's offices and hospitals. They have a few models, I'd recommend the kickplate model (1750) Tapmaster...See MoreUser
