Snake Plant getting wrinkles?

What might cause this? I was reading several posts on root rot and pulled plant to look at roots and plan to repot. I was thinking about enhancing soil with coco-coir and rock dust. What do you all think? The soil plant was previously in was not regular potting soil, very loose bought from store.

No fine particles of any kind, they're likely to clog up the mix & impede watering & aeration of roots. Sans are plants unlikely to need special soil amendments. They're one of the few plants I use recycled mix for.

The wrinkling is most likely a symptom of plain thirst, has nothing to do w/ root rot.

I'd use ordinary cactus & succulent mix, w/ 50% added perlite & pot them up, wait 2 days to water well, 'til lots of water comes out the bottom. Wait a few minutes & pour off the excess water.

If you do use the Coir, make sure it's rinsed, I hear it often comes salted & needs rinsing first.

Don't know what rock dust is, nor what its purpose would be.

agreed, thirst. repot in cactus mix and water. wrinkles will disappear once hydrated.

I still think it's OK. Once the bulbs are wrinkled they will stay that way, watering more won't make them fill in. Since it is flowering now it has finished it's growth cycle, it will still provide energy to future growth but it will not grow anymore or flower again. It might drop the leaves next year or the year after which is normal. Sometimes the bulbs also get too fat and split. The fat bulbs and rigid leaves of these to me say that they are capable of surviving dry spells, so I would be more worried about over watering than under watering.

I thank all of you for your help. This morning I took out the problem succulents and brushed off the dirt as best they would allow. Could you help me identify what is root rot, how do the roots look if they're healthy or if they are rotted? The smaller succulents at the bottom all have relatively shorter roots, and the soil around them was dry. The bigger succulent in the top photo had tightly compact soil around its roots that I found almost impossible to break off without tearing out all its roots with it! It was completely bone dry, I think that is what you all meant by hydrophobic; it was so tight and dry no water was getting through. In the photo you can see some water droplets, where I sprayed lightly with a spray bottle onto the dry soil. All the arrangements you see above are temporary, my main goal is to prepare them all for the nice, larger planter I am creating. I live outside of the US, so I am afraid any brand names or chain stores you mention won't be of any use to me, 'tis why I am trying to make with the best I have, or find similar products by other names. I do realize I have regular potting soil, I went out and got some grit, like small pebbles and clean sand, witch which I plan to mix it altogether like suggested.

J, i am from singapore. we don't have zone here so i can't tell you that but the humidity and sun here can be quite strong but not scorching strong. Most of the time it's around 30 - 40 degrees outside and we don't have four seasons as well. I have kept this plant indoor under grow light. indoor temperature here is, 28- 34% indoor and with relative humidity between 60 - 75 most of the time. I have changed the soil twice from 1 (pumice) : 1 (akadama) to slightly gritty, 1 (pumice): 1 ( granite gravel ) and less water retaining. I found the first soil mix is too water retaining and may be cause the root to rot easily. sorry i am new on succulents so not really sure if i am doing it right. Even after watering these wrinkled don't go away, is this normal on sedum?

Agreed with above comments. Once damaged the Snake plant doesn't show it soon, leaving many to believe it is okay. Then a month later, you see what yours looks like. Damage will never repair itself but will out grow it with new leaves and pups (new young plants). There are many factors that can cause a plant's demise. Mostly keep warm, out of drafts and all the bright light they can get. With warm weather (80's to 90's) they require all the water possible. I have seen some sitting in water all the time! Most people don't keep their house that warm and hope you can take them outside for summer vacation. A large well grown Snake Plant can take a lot of abuse being in darkness and little water and even temps in the 50's, but if something does go wrong then it will advance rapidly.

I agree with the good advise. Also noticed some dead central leaves. Also stressed plant producing strange variegations in some leaves. Plants were neglected for a while.

Appreciate the feedback everyone.

Rock dust meaning something
like Azomite or Excellertie for added minerals. The coco-coir is from
Cosmic Coir which is very clean.

When you say dead central leaves, do you mean like this? This is another I have.

Thats' not what I saw. This kind is from a virus or fungus from a injury to the leaf. I though I saw the central bud leaf dead. Which could mean crown rot. Some times just lack of water.
