need advice on repairing an antique embroidered applique

Hello. New to this forum, and wondering if anyone could give me some advice on repairing an antique embroidered applique. Some of the edging thread is loose, so would like to re-attach it somehow before I frame the piece. I am not an embroider-er, but am thinking of tacking it in a few places with either some thin thread (I sew, but not sure how good I'd be at doing this by hand with embroidery thread so that it blends in), using super fine straight pins, or else some type of fabric glue. Wanting to preserve it for sentimental reasons because it's a piece that has been passed down in the family since possibly 1919. I don't know that it has any monetary value.
If anyone has any advice/suggestions/etc. of what might be the best (or worst) choice for this, sure would appreciate it!

Thanks,
Marj
