I'm no expert by any means, but will share my experience with you. So, be prepared for a long winded, boring, story. You may want to put on some head protection just in case you doze off from the bore, and your head smacks the monitor! However, I hope my experience may help you in the end.

I think about the experience I've had with numerous optometrists, and think about how many children tell their parents their eyes hurt etc, and the doctor says the kids just need to get used to it. I'd be willing to bet, the kids have legitimate complaint, but parents believe the doctor. The same with adults, how many doctors tell adults they just need to get used to it.

I've been wearing glasses for approx 35 years. My first experience with an optometrist was at one of those national chains. One of those BOGO places, and they're still operating today. Anyways, I had headaches from wearing the glasses, I'd rub my eyes because they felt tired, and things just didn't look right to me. Kind of like you're explaining, so back I went to the place. They checked my eyes, both sets of glasses, adjusted the fit etc. Still I had problems and dealt with it trying to get "used" to wearing glasses.

Finally the girl I was dating (who is now my better half!), suggested for me to go to this other place. They were well known for higher prices, but had a reputation among the people that had money. Being I wasn't one of those people, and didn't have insurance to cover an exam, it took me awhile to save up to go. So I get the exam, find out both pair of glasses are definitely ground the same, but they are not ground to my prescription. Long story short, the other place would not grind new lenses to what this other place said. So, out of pocket I laid out whatever it was back then, and they didn't give the BOGO deal. But boy could I see!

A decade or so later, this optometrist passed away and the business closed. Here I am again looking for an optometrist. Found one close to home, went there and low and behold it was like I was looking through a tunnel when driving. Went back numerous times to complain, they ground new lenses, adjusted glasses, numerous eye checks etc. Same thing, I could not see going down the road. Was told these glasses were correct, and my other ones were not because my prescription changed so drastic. It was simple, I could see better with the old, rather than new. So I sought yet another optometrist, paid for another exam. Low and behold, the other one didn't account for astigmatism. Paid for new glasses and frames, could see perfect once again! After trying to get my money back by showing the place whom ground them wrong, showing the prescription etc. Ended up contacting credit card and disputed charges. I won on this so the charges were reversed.

Here we go again in two years. My now wife suggested another place MIL would go, because we could save a few $$$. I went for the sake of argument, even though I would gladly pay a higher price. Guess what? They had the progressive lens for the bifocal part too high. I'd be adjusting my glasses, looking down my nose and every which way to see. I gave them one chance to fix them. They couldn't do it, forgot to make them bifocals when they put the new lenses in! Ok, got my money back and been going to the same place every 2 years, for at least a decade.

I understand about insurance and the money part. But, if you're having an issue and the present place can not fix it, if you hear the gotta get used to them etc. Find another optometrist, and always use credit card any time you do have to pay out of pocket.

Our work insurance requires us to go to this place 'strip mall eye clinic' 'buy one get one free' to get best benefits of insurance or you forfeit big money going outside of the network. I think that's part of my issue.

JM, Some suggestions for you

First of all, call the main offices of the "strip mall eye clinic" place that you have to use for insurance coverage. Talk to someone there and present your situation. If need me, keep going up the "chain of command" so to speak, from one supervisor to another, till you get to the top.

The treatment you are getting from this company is not acceptable.

There should also be someone at your place of employment that is an intermediary between you and your company and you should talk to them as well. Tell this person that the company is requiring you to use this place and they can not get your eye glass prescription right for you to see out of. How are you supposed to work when you can't see correctly out of your glasses. I would also tell them that you are questioning the actual eye exam you got as well. How accurate is the exam if they can not get the lenses done correctly? I' betting there are a lot of other people with the same problem within you company.

You can also go to the attorney general in you state and lodge a formal complaint against this company, the eye care place, as they are not doing their job, are not competent, etc.

Also fine a report with your local Better Business Bureau as well.

You need to fight this as this is not an acceptable situation.
