You should be able to do that without a problem! Do you have another computer you could check it on afterwards to make sure they copied correctly? If not, do you have a friend with a computer you could use to check them?

You should only have trouble copying Copy Righted Material, you videos you made should be no problem. I can Burn DVD's straight from my Video Camera, can edit on the video camera too!

Myself, I'd feel safer Burning them onto a DVD. Although, all media has it's problem, I've just seen too many Flash Drives and Flash Media go bad for no reason whatsoever! DVD's get scratched, warped, etc...

Assuming you're getting the total file size in Windows Explorer, the size reported is in binary (base 2).

The 8 GB flash drive capacity is measured in decimal (base 10).

The correct multiplier for increasing from byte to kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, etc. is 1,024 ... which is how the OS measures and states file size.

Hardware marketers, however, have settled on 1,000 for ease of consumers to compare capacity ... so 1 GB of size stated on a flash drive or disc package is usually accordingly less than the "real"/correct 1 GB.

Some space on any drive is also used by the OS and file system to keep track of what's on the disc or drive so the full stated capacity is not usable for storage.

That helps me alot. and I am now thinking that I might just be able to use a 2GB flash drive for some of them instead of the 8GB.

Flash drives are solid state: no moving parts means they are highly reliable. Go to Amazon, plug in the size you want, and buy whatever one is cheapest and has decent reviews. Don't spend a lot of time worrying about which one will be the most reliable. However, even the best manufacturers of any electronic product will have the occasional lemon, so, if what you are storing on it is something you value, always have a backup copy somewhere else. Even if the original device never fails, a backup prevents you becoming a victim of your own inadvertent mistake, or loss of the drive, or a lightning strike, etc.

Small thumb drives are cheap, you can buy ones this size for the price of a specialty coffee. Get a few if security is a concern for you.

Bigger question is are you looking for backups or to transfer the files around? If you want backups, how privacy conscious are you?

If you don't care about sharing your videos, there are literally dozens of cloud services that can store or back up your videos, some for free, some for a fee. Many of the backup services can also back up any files on your computer, and make them available to pretty much any other computing device, OS etc...

If you're privacy concerned, make sure you have multiple local copies of any files you want to back up. Flash drives are great for transfers, i.e. temporary storage while moving files around. They're not great for archival, they do tend to fail with no warning at all. So either have 3 or more copies on different flash drives, or use a different backup method. There are lots available, again at all different price points. In any case, you want multiple copies. Here's where DVD-Rs are useful - they are write once, so they can't be accidentally erased, they now are very cheap, so you could have 20 or more for the price of a 4GB flash drive, and if stored in a cool dark place, usually last at least a couple years. There are more expensive archival ones that claim to last 70 years, though I'd probably still check every few years if I really cared about the data, if only to migrate to current formats if necessary.

I just picked up a 32GB PNY Flash Drive and a 64GB PNY Flash Drive at Best Buy. The 32GB was $10 and the 64GB was $15. I only bought them at Best Buy because someone gave me a $25 Gift Card for Christmas and there isn't much you can buy at Best Buy for $25 (already have all the electronic devices I need for now).

My wife and I both have New Laptops and Tablets. On our Contract for our phones we can't get new phones until May. I think I'll just keep my phone for now, I like it (Nokia 928 Windows Phone)! My Wife and daughter both have iPhones 5's, I'm sure they'll upgrade.
