Is the current paint job in good shape? What does your real estate agent say? Last house we sold, our agent recommended painting two rooms that needed a fresh coat. He suggested leaving the rest and we had color everywhere, including a hale navy study, a guilford green master and a barley accent wall in the living room. We sold in less than a week.

I agree with crl.....no need to paint unless the walls are in bad shape. Same for the carpet. It will be an expense you may not get back.

I would consult with the real estate agent first.

Get rid of the pink, lilac, green and yellow tan. Paint them a neutral griege, like Benjamin moore revere pewter. It goes with anything.

I'd also paint any rooms that need to be warmed up... Sometimes white can be too stark.

Let your real estate agent guide you. You may be spending time and money needlessly by painting on the advice of those who are not professional selling agents.

We are looking at moving to the East Coast this spring, and I'm looking at listings in the area we are interested in. I am appalled at all the homes painted a different color each room. Please paint it all a nice neutral color. Do you have different color carpeting in each room, as well? I'm looking at homes that badly need to be neutralized.

Even if I liked lilac walls, maybe I would not want that color in that room, or I don't want to spend money on other decor just to match your walls. Please go neutral!

I would only paint a room if it needed to be freshened up. The ONLY room I would paint is the bright pink one. I am house shopping and while I understand that kids rooms usually have strong personalities, yet can be changed easily, I still feel more positive when the house has more neutral walls since I know I am going to have a lot of things to do to make the house mine, so I won't be able o get them all done at once. Having neutral wall colors just makes it easier. But none of those other colors sound jarring enough to make a difference. I would only repaint or redo a room if it had a very strong personality. That said, the two kids bedrooms in my old house both had ugly splatter painted walls that the kids did themselves before I bought it, and I still bought the house. But now that I am 15 years older, less painting is a definite plus for me. So a lot will depend on your buyers too.

More color is more common on the east coast. If you are on the east coast, most of your potential buyers are probably also on the east coast so they won't have the same reaction as sushipup1.

In some markets, most houses for sale are updated and neutral. In others, they have decades old kitchens and eclectic decor. You really just need to ask your agent. That's the person who knows your local market and has a vested interest in selling your house ASAP.

Appalled?? That's pretty strong words for a cosmetic fix that most people want to personalize anyway, regardless of whether it is bright purple or "greige". Then again, I am not a neutral paint person. I love color, and houses that are all one color I find fairly depressing and lifeless. So, you can't please everyone! Your colors don't sound crazy or something that would prevent someone from buying. I would refresh what needs refreshing and go from there. I think painting your whole house for selling is a waste of your money. I hope your realtor has some words of wisdom for you. Best of luck!

We are also listing soon and are in the east. Most of my rooms are painted on the SW Blond color card so they flow. The MB is painted SW Chamois which is pretty dark but the room has lots of natural light. I though for sure our agent would say to paint some of the rooms but she said everything looked fine and to not worry about paint.

Unless you have some glaring colors or the wall are in need of repair I would leave them as is.

We looked at a few house that had really awful colors but those house needed to be updated anyway so paint would be a minor thing if we had bought one of those.
