New plants.Think good deal at H.D.
Comments (42)it was a domestic US flight - so no customs! I had a packed box with plants in checked suitcase and another in carry-on. nobody even asked anything. as far as i know hawaii needs plant cert to get in/out, cali to get plants in and fl has citrus restrictions. but others - no problems. trini, can you advice us on light for thai ags? the best i could find was very bright indirect sun, with very early/very late weak sun 1-2 hours beneficial for color. i already managed to burn one leaf in FL in not so weak sunset light. any idea in foot candles/lux? i cannot find any ref to that anywhere at all. i think they are close to ming aralia in growing conditions. hopeful, don't thai ags start spotting on leaves in cool temps? do yours have spots/yellow leaf margins? mine were for 2 weeks at may be 62F AT THE ROOTS and one young leaf started showing gray spots, now turning yellowish. i immediately put it on a heating pad and raised temps in the room to 70F (near windows is cooler by 5F). i also have tropical ferns/aralias/anthuriums/african masks that can't stand getting cold feet - they were all tented when i was away and temps were at 65F. that's how i keep them going well. should've tented ag too right away!...See MorePlant bulbs now? got from HD
Comments (1)Plant them ASAP. My Iris's are already about a foot high. It is colder here than where you are. Days have been in the mid 60's nights have been in the 30-mid 40's. You should have rain this weekend with low temps it would be perfect....See MoreDo 2nd year plants bloom? or not?
Comments (22)Kasie - Can't believe you didn't grab it girl! Go back when you have time and hubby isn't in a hurry and grab one or two or what the hec maybe even three or four like I did, LOL! I have learned quickly to give my friends who come over the cheap ones from HD or Wallyworld. I like to share the aloha spirit but it starts getting rather costly when your plants aren't big enough to take cuttings from yet and everyone wants the most expensive one you have, lol. Now I give them the 6 dollar ones complete with inflo and they are happy campers...walah, problem solved and I am still sharing, lol...(now I sound like a cheap skate :) Teri - if the cutting is rotting it's more than likely from the bottom so you will want to cut from the bottom until you see good white wood where the cut is. I had to cut some of mine today and although I found white wood there was no latex flowing...don't know if they will make it or not. Is the top squishy, or just the bottom? The really squishy parts need to go, hopefully it is just from the bottom and you can reroot. Karen B. - That's a great find girl and at an excellent price! I have a KW but no inflo yet :( maybe later in the summer. Can you post pics of yours, would love to see it!...See MoreTomato plants and high heat
Comments (16)I have no Pines but have 3 Live Oaks that rain leaves all Winter long. I use those. Actually I lowered my mower, put the bag on it and sucked up a bunch of leaves and green vegetation. Piled it along a stretch of fence to decay, got impatient and ran a thin layer of soil along the top and planted beans not expecting them to grow. Surprisingly they did pretty well. Just about a year ago, before my first Summer here, I ran into problems with tomatoes. Sent pictures to the County Extension and learned to my dismay that most people here give up on tomatoes about this time of year. I think I'm coming up against that wall again but this time I got lots of tomatoes. And still lots of green ones on the vines. I'll try a "Wild Florida Everglades" currant though which might just give me a few for salads or whatever. I'll probably try "Homestead 24", "Atkinson", "Florida Pink", "Anahu" and "Kewalo". I won't expect much, that way I won't be disappointed. If they start looking bad I'll just yank them to avoid the frustration. Yeah, this is another planet compared to Ohio too. The lady at the extension said forget everything I knew about gardening from Ohio. Luckily I didn't have much to forget. This plant has given me, the birds and worms 106 tomatoes so far. Eleven foot, ugly, unkempt and disease ridden but it's served its purpose. More peat than I care to admit but it dries so quickly here that the moisture retention "may" actually be a plus? "Red Beefsteak Heirloom"...See MoreTodd C
