Don't know you well enough to know if you really want suggestions or if you're just having fun here! In case you are really serious: a romantic dinner prepared by you (or a caterer), at a beautifully set table; a from the heart letter telling her honestly what she has meant to you; a special night out to see a live performance. Basically I think a special gift is to let her know what it means to you to share your life with her. Material things are just things.

I think she has a present, just by having you live with her. You've got a wicked sense of humour, and we all love it!!!!

You do so many wonderful things, like your cruises. Something quirky would be hilarious, as well as something meaningful. Does she like to cook, or are you the cook in the family? Something that she's been wanting, a gadget or a cookbook.

Give her a coupon book of services.....like vacuuming, washing windows or hiring someone to do it, unloading the dishwasher, cooking a meal, etc. Or you can do what my DH does....buys me a new watch. Every year he buys a watch or two, then he says I never saw anyone with so many watches! LOL I can't think of anything I want so it's okay by me. You could get her a gift certificate for a massage.

As soon as I saw this thread, I expected something like an automatic toilet seat putter downer. Do those even exist?

Jim, why don't you simply write a heartfelt note to your wife, mentioning things the two of you have done together that you really enjoyed. Tell her how much she means to you. Mention times, places, or adventures that perhaps she has forgotten but you remember vividly.

Texas_Gem, they do exist, and I was thinking along the same lines.

My own idea, however, was a certificate with a heartfelt promise to close the toilet faithfully for a full year. :)

I always knew DH would ask what I wanted, so I started looking after Thanksgiving and write down what I wanted, where to get it, what color, and what size...or if it was jewelry or something, do likewise....too many times I got things that never got used, so that way, we both were happy!

Every year my Hubs asks me what I want for Christmas, and every year I tell him he doesn't need to get me anything. He does so much for me throughout the year. And if I give him a list of, say, 10 things from which he can choose, he'll get me all 10.

So, Jim, have you asked your wife what she would like for Christmas?

I did replace the toilet seat in her bathroom today. I think that is kind of me.

She spends about 50 hours each week knitting, about 5 hours working Sudoku things and about 20 hours a week reading. Not much I can do for those things.

I take care of the floors, the yard, the snow shoveling, windows, bathrooms and take out the garbage. She does the laundry. We split cooking and cleaning. She does the mid-day meal and I do the evening meal. She gets a mani & pedi every 5 weeks or so and she gets her hair done about every 4 weeks or so.

I did buy a card!

A card is nice! So is a new toilet seat. Especially one that gets put down whenever it's put up. :)

Does she have a knitting bowl? It's great because it keeps track of your ball while leaving it easy to pull the yarn. The best kind have holes for the needles, like this linked one, which keep the knitting from falling off if you have to put it down mid-row. You just put the points in the holes and you can walk away.

If the mustache wax is a 'no go', I'll bet she doesn't have one of these egg separators! Too bad you can't get it personalized. :)

Jim, do you know if your wife has a favorite place to buy yarn? A gift certificate for that place, so she can choose her own yarn, would be appreciated. One of my favorite online places is Jimmy Beans Wool. They carry quality yarn and accessories. Orders over $50 ship free, and orders under that amount ship for $4. They have a rewards program, too.

"Mustache wax" That's right up there with shaving mug and brush. She'll take the razor strop to you. LOL. I'm sure you'll do better than that. In addition to a gift, why not take your sweet heart to dinner.

It sounds as if a new lamp is in order here, Jim - they make floor lamps just for crafters and readers.

A couple of things that I neglected to mention:

We have a cat. No yarn can be left out for more than 10 minutes, otherwise it is all over the house.

The missus buys most of her yarns online from about 4,000 places! She currently has 8 of those big plastic tubs of yarn. More yarn than she could use in two years! We drove to Florida for our last cruise, taking our time and we spent one night in Thomasville, Georgia (really neat town). As I was looking at things, I discovered a yarn store called the Fuzzy Goat. It took her about 30 seconds to get on their email list! Sheesh!

I do like that egg separator. She might actually use it. She has some plastic thing that I cannot figure out how to use. I am old-fashioned - I pour the yolk back and forth until the process is complete. Not very many know that I was in a Cooking 4-H club when I was 9 & 10. A bunch of girls and me. I had a blast! The Yum Yum Eat Em Up 4-H Club. With 4-H (in the old days) everyone had to do a demonstration in front of others. My older sister and I did our demonstration on how to correctly make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!
