Is Eggshell finish the newer Satin finish?
Comments (13)When I went shopping for primer, I saw three grades of Kilz. I sprung for the most expensive--the Premium--and I'm glad I did. I was painting plywood beadboard, and was hoping to get rid of the strong wood grain. The Premium Kilz eradicated it in one uneven (I'm not a very good painter) coat. It was rather miraculous. Then I painted with an eggshell finish....See MoreFlat or eggshell finish?
Comments (14)I'd use flat in the dining room. I recently did a room in BM Matte and I was surprised by the shine. I ended up repainting anyway because I hated the color, but that shine would have bothered me. When I repainted, for the first time in several decades, I used paint that was not BM. I used Behr in a flat finish. Because of that, I can't tell you which of BM's paints would give you a flat finish. BTW, although I am happy with the finish I got with the Behr, I will never, ever, paint with anything but BM again! It took four to five coats of the Behr to do what I know it would have taken two coats of the BM to do. Good luck with your dining room....See MoreCan walls, trim and doors be same paint sheen/finish?
Comments (9)We had a condo (although not contemporary). I painted the walls, ceiling and woodwork all the same white and all the same finish (matte). But, my reason for not doing a semi-gloss on the trim was the trim was dinky…and I didn’t want to call attention to it. It worked! If the woodwork is something special, would you like it to stand out? It won’t be an in your face difference, but a difference none the less. One other thing…what ever you decide …there is still that shadow around the raised trim which falls back onto the walls, so I don’t understand how one finish will make the space feel bigger. Looking at inspiration photos doesn’t help because the rooms have been professionally lighted to perfection and there are no blemishes. This room looks like all is in white matte…maybe Why not try the matte walls and on one area of the woodwork do a sample of gloss and the other of the matte. I really am interested how it all turns out....See MorePainters used eggshell finish instead of satin finish on our walls
Comments (39)Egg shell is a nicer Finnish its durable ( just slighty less so than satin) much more classy & crisp... a much more on trend coveted look. Which is most likely why they used it. Has a slight sheen, so you can wipe it clean. but depends on the quality of your paint! You cannot beat Benjamin Moore paint ... worth every penny! Egg shell is not shinny. When light hits it you get a nice hum/radiance from it .. nice shadows....not a shiny glow like satin. Also eggshell brings out, enhances and draws attention to architectural features & trims ...rather the thicker coating of satin that masks it. Satin can look Plastic. In my opinion stay with the eggshell....it’s beautiful & hard earring enough ......but only if it’s a very good quality paint....See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
