advice on first steps to trying to fix front yard lawn
Comments (4)" That leaves fescue and your only grass possibility unless you want to take down the trees." that sounds simple. ill look into getting fescue seed. "Now is a bad time to plant new grass but a lot of people do it. Those are the people who complain in July that they have a full crabgrass lawn. That's what happens if you seed new grass in the spring. You get all the summer weeds. If you want to nurse this lawn through the summer, then late August is the best time to seed the fescue." okay. ill nurse this lawn through the summer and seed fescue in august. so nursing means trying to keep on top of the weeds (really, the lawn isnt that large, so i think this is doable) and watering whatever i have that is green deeply and infrequently. correct? ill plan on that. ill pull out those weeds in the strip as well and try to keep it bare over the summer till august. im not in any rush. i just want to do my best to try to have the yard looking better than what it looks like now....See MoreNeed new front steps
Comments (1)My sugestion would be to start with your neighbor's contractor and make a list of others to contact. Before they come, have an idea of what you envision for your front entrance. With a variety of materials available, you need to make some decisions first. And deciding for safety as well as asthetics is okay. We had a similar situation when we moved into our present home. The front entrance was pretty bad with railroad ties, chicken wire and crushed stone for a walkway and steps. We brought in 6 landscape contractors to give us estimates on what we wanted done. The whole process of deciding on a contractor took about 6 weeks. The final job took another 7 weeks but we are exceptionally pleased with the final result. Good luck in your quest. Enjoy the journey. eal51 in western CT...See MoreNeed Advice on Steps to Get Started
Comments (3)What is your builder responsible for? If you do bring in soil, that must be done before the final grading. You don't want to mess up the way water drains away the house by bringing in soil after the grading. Sand is not necessarily a problem. A soil test would be useful so you know what you've got. You can sod almost anytime when the ground isn't frozen. Best time to seed is late August/early September....See MoreNeed advice on correcting uneven brick step risers
Comments (3)Been thinking about this situation for a while. Seems to me the least expensive solution would be to remove about 6' of the sidewalk from the step out and repour the concrete to the correct level(same rise as the rest of the steps)....See Morecpartist
