Any good home remedies for Shingles
Comments (9)You MUST see your doctor, if you haven't already. There are meds that can decrease the duration and chance of complications. If you can tolerate OTC pain meds, they can be a little helpful. My first thought went immediately to coconut oil, knowing how helpful it has been for me in healing cuts and burns and other skin issues. It has anti- bacterial and anti-viral properties. Lo and behold, it is listed as a remedy for shingles. I just did some reading on it. You can find organic coconut oil at a health food store.....it is a solid at room temperature and will come in a jar. I'll be sending thoughts of strength your way....please see your doctor. My eldest brother called all of us siblings after he came down with shingles. His mission was to MAKE us promise to get vaccinated as soon as possible. He also said that it was the worst pain that he's ever experienced....See MoreDo you know 'Good Shepard Noisette'?
Comments (7)Learn something new every day. Kaye, are you saying one rose that is prone to BS can be an instigator to where the other roses get it? If so then I've got some that I need to go ahead and take out. I've been keeping them around, thinking that it was OK, I didn't mind leaflessness as long as they bloomed. I planted that monster Good Shepard Noisette that Kaye gave me and it's grown some, but not bloomed yet, and it does have BS and pretty severe defoliation when none of the other roses in the "new" rose garden have shown much BS. To be fair, though, this rose was so mature when I got it from Kaye that I planted it in a crowded spot without much air circulation, thinking that it would shoot straight up from that spot and up onto the arbor which would be more air circulation....See MoreHome remedies... can be good.
Comments (9)It just seems to me that if the stomach acid breaks down the good bacteria, Joann23456, it would also break down all of the other useful things that people take----aspirin, all medications, etc.-----and the benefits would be lost. Yet, we know that medications DO help people and THEY LEAVE THE STOMACH. Doctors don't know it all-------they never have------they cannot tell you WHY certain bodily functions happen---just that they do. Only GOD knows the WHY. ****************************** Here's another tip that may or may not help someone-----my DH has a terrible time with acid reflux & heartburn, etc. I read on another forum that a mixture of skim milk, tofu, and something else (sorry) might help. Well, after mentioning it to him (I didn't mention the tofu--lol) he actually drank some regular milk that night---didn't have his usual problem with his stomach!!!!!! He's been drinking milk now, especially when he eats spicy stuff----and it has greatly helped his problem. I notice he hasn't been eating as many of the antacids. So... **************************************************** Breast cancer and deodorants--------has anyone been keeping up with this???? Several years ago a co-worker told me that she did not use regular deodorants because they've been linked to breast cancer. So, I used the "all natural" deodorants from my local Wal-mart for a while, then eventually went back to my other ones. Now------fast forward----a few DAYS ago a researcher has come out to say that he's found a link between breast cancer and deodorant. Some people use baking soda, there's other natural products on the market. PS Deodorant has aluminum in it. Hasn't this been linked with Alzheimers????...See MoreHow do you know what you know about old houses, etc?
Comments (14)Whoa, if you get a degree in industrial arts you get to acquire carpentry textbooks along the way?!? Sweet! Kim, I've always enjoyed/appreciated your contributions; given the wisdom of trial and error that was behind them, I see why they stood out. My mom got us a couple of the Reader's Digest fixit books (have to run downstairs, one of them might be the very one you have); I like the way they are encyclopedic and detailed. I know Jane Powell but not the Small Houses books (do you mean The Not So Big stuff by Susanka, or the Small House anthologies from Fine Homebuilding?) Thanks for mentioning books; I think I might start a reference book thread for this forum. Hey Casey, THANKS for taking the bait. And you are NOT a bloody genius, you are an old house DEITY for crying out loud! Would you please start your own show on youtube? Or maybe just a house tour? Even Petch house has youtube videos. Or, do you already have a project blog and everyone knows about it but me? Actually for someone with a degree in historic preservation, I am impressed with how low-key your posts come across; they read more like an old friend who's "been there" and wants to pass along lessons learned along the way, it's really very nice and encouraging. But if you ever want to browbeat me feel free; I would take it as a compliment. To be honest if I post about something I'm thinking of doing to my house, and you don't opine, I figure one of two things is going on: 1) you're not on the forum; or 2) you're politely disapproving. Most of the time I assume it's 2 because you seem to be pretty consistent around here. But I just want to say, and I hope I speak for many, that I love love love your posts, especially when I'm searching on a problem I'm trying to solve and something from you pops up! (PS I finally got around to using that general finishes gel varnish you recommended and it was fantastic, thank you; I will post photos to the woodworking forum sometime before the next census.) Oh, and I love the way you "aged" the color tones in the new pine beadboard in your kitchen; reminds me of the pine in my grandmother's kitchen. When I was really little I used to look at the gleaming pores and think it was the closest wood could get to 24K gold....See More- 10 years ago
