Tbaleno, the higher the humidity, the better, but living in zone 5, we do what we can. Do you have a humidifer? There are many ways to increase humidity. There are also many reasons citrus leaves drop. Overwatering, underwatering, lack of light and humdiity, insects, etc. For the time being, place your citrus in a bright south or west window. How much light is it getting? As days lenghten, baby leaves should sprout. Test stems. Bend to see if they're flexible or break? If flexible then your tree is alive. Another way to test is by peeling a little bark. Just a bit. Use a sharp knife..the inside should be green. Proper watering is very very important. Pot should have drainage holes. Soil needs to dry between waterings; do not keep soil wet or soggy. Good luck, Toni

Oppalm. Citrus prefer cool oppossed to hot 'nights' during winter. A 10 degree drop at night is ideal. It'd be difficult if not impossible for us to adapt to rooms kept at 50-55F degrees, not that I blame anyone. lol, but citrus wouldn't mind the decrease. It's best bringing citrus indoors gradually..similiar to taking them out..they need to adapt either way.. Few leaves drop if temps are kept 65-68F during the day, and 55-65F at night. Humidity makes a huge difference, if possible invest in a humidifer. They're great for people, too. Misting and weekly showering perks tropicals-sub-tropicals during gray, dry months. Proper watering is most important, year round. The idea is to allow soil to dry between waterings. If it was my citrus, I'd wait until spring to repot. Increase 1-2 sizes from its original size. MG Palm & Citrus soil is okay, but you may need to add other mediums so it's well-draining. Choose a south or west window in winter. Whichever provides brighter conditions. My plants get additional artificial light a few hours after dark. The longer the better. Withhold fertilizer after Sept..Start up again in late winter/early spring, or when you notice new growth. Fertilizing when days are short, and/or gray, will cause spindly growth. Pruning isn't necessary. Unless someone is really hung up on shape, there's no need to prune. It also reduces chance of flower/fruiting. Stray branches and root stock should be removed. Good luck, Toni

Thank you, Barb. I thought about putting them outside again until we get another freeze warning. But, I'm not sure if they like being brought in & out. And, they're too big to just bring in every night. We have fairly mild winters...but, it's those few cold spells that ruin things. I've thought about Visqueen before (making a makeshift greenhouse). But, both ends have steps that we use all year round (4ft wide openings in a 8ft wide deck). So, it would be difficult to completely enclose it. I do have some lighting inside, but I'm not sure if it's enough. The lemon started blooming just a few days after I brought it inside. It may have started blooming outdoors. If I ever get another house, my dream is to have a sunroom attached to a uncovered concrete patio, so I can have them on wheels and roll them in & out :) Thanks for your help!

Drew, just because your other plants are fine does not mean they will stay that way if you are using the same mix that decomposes like that. You may still have time on others and or may get caught off guard.. Typically, in order to be successful at least a little bit with finer mixes , you would have to re pot every 6 months or less and only pot up in one size. Flushing this kind of mix is a must of any accumulated salts... What kind of other trees or plants do you have and what are they planted in? How are the leaf margins and or very tips of them? I'd bet if you had a palm tree growing in that kind of mix watered that way, the fronds would be all black tips or yellow...How are your other plants leaves, the tips? Are they flawless? If you tap water has magnesium sulfate in it at higher levels, then it can leave white reside as spots behind...Too much of it and other chemicals can also contort the leaves.
