When my little cat was nearing the end of her life with kidney failure, she lost so much weight and was cold much of the time. I looked into heated beds and talked to my vet. There was a concern about her getting overheated, plus worries of urine leaks and electricity and leaving things plugged in when I was away from home. I was able to borrow a friend's pet bed heating disk that you put in the microwave.

I have one. My little dog loves it. It's a pet bed with heating pad in it. It has an egg crate type mattress over the pad so they are not in direct contact. Plus it has a heavy furry cover that zips off to wash. I have had it for several years and it still works perfectly. It stays plugged in year round because she has very little hair and is easily chilled. K&H manufacturing thermo ortho pet bed is what the label says and it is ul listed and all that. I would not put my baby in it if I had any concerns.

Also on the site you can buy just a replacement heating pad just like the ones in the beds they sell. I did have one of these years ago for my cats I had it inside the cat bed under the foam mattress and also had a thick folded towel on top so it was just barely warm. It was the most popular spot for the cats and there were squabbles over it lol.

It's more of a disk than a pad. I have several, and have been using them for outdoor cats for years, starting when we first set up a dog house on the porch for a pair of stray cats. We wrapped a disk in fleece, and the cats would huddle around it. Then we bought another so each cat could lie on its own. They work great!

My cats love their K&H heated beds. I leave them on 24/7 from about now until spring. They never get HOT, just warm, and only when the pet is using it. A nice side benefit for me is they sleep in their beds instead of on the furniture or our bed, so I have less cat hair to clean from the furniture. You do have to stay on top of keeping them clean; if you don't, it can be difficult to get all the cat hair off. And I have found that while you can put the fabric cover in the washer, it's sort of difficult to get everything back together again. So I have begun putting a thin piece of fleece fabric over the bed and tucked into the sides. It's easier to clean the fleece cover than the bed fabric itself.

I have Chihuahuas and make warm pads for them to keep them warm. it started years ago when I make rice bags to wear around my neck for warmth... MY littlest chi crawled up on my neck to lay on the bag to get warm... A seed was planted - I now make bags about 10"x12" for them with rice/beans/field corn (which is the best) I nuke them for two minutes and put them under a blanket for them - it's portable and the dogs burrow under the blanket to lay directly on the bad - It stays warm for hours - in fact the warmth of their bodies heats the filler inside the bag! My DH even has one on his lap to warm his hands! I sew so I made a cover for the bags so they can be washed easily and remain relativity clean - I put a couple sprigs of lavender in with the filling as I read the odor is calming - no, I don't sell them but I do make for friends...BTW - you can wash field corn...

I use a regular heating pad and sit a box on it with bedding inside. It is also how I have to do it when I am raising baby possums.

I too used a heating pad when I raised Sidney and Seymour, baby pinky squirrels. Cheap, and effective.

I have one of the K&H heated kennel mats in our dogs' house. They stay outside when we are gone and love it.

As for the cat, she thinks the wifi router is he personal heating mat. That or she's using it to call her home planet ;)

We have one cat, and he loves to snuggle on the sofa with us when we're watching tv in the family room, and he sleeps on the bed with us, but mostly in the winter. We want to get a heated bed for him for the times when we are gone overnight.

We have taken care of several feral cats through the years, going back at least 20, and have used the Snuggle Safe....We keep 2 of them going and they are wonderful....My husband used an old TV console, made it air tight, lined it with foam, then put a layer of straw and then either blankets or cat beds that I had made....We just slip the Snuggle Safe in between the blanket or right under the cat bed and it keeps them warm all night long...There have been mornings, the cats don't even want to come out for breakfast and if they do, they scurry right back in their "cat house"....We got our Snuggle Safe at PetSmart, cost close to $30.00 but well worth it......

I'd never heard of heated cat beds before (I thought we humans supplied the heat....) but this does sound worth looking into! I should spring for a couple for my felines!
