20-20-20 fertilizer
Comments (27)Hi Fred, I couldn't agree with you more! For years I have grown violets with Peter's and never had any problems either. I think why everyone makes such a big deal about it today is that many use the soiless mixes. Before they were around what did people use? You got it SOIL! And what does soil have in it? Beneficial bacteria! That is why years ago there was not so much concern about urea. Here is the mix I use in CT and have had beautiful violets blooming very young. You can buy this at Lowe's, or any garden center. 8 qts Miracle-Gro African Violet Mix. You can also use the regular Miracle-Grow if not avaliable. 8qts Perlite 8qts Vermiculite I use 2:1:1 ratio. To make it simple, here is a 1/2 batch. 4 qts Miracle-Gro 2 qts Perlite 2 qts Vermiculite I use Miracle-Gro 20-20-20 at 1/4 strength every week, alternating the 3rd week with a bloosom booster. If you live in an area with very hard water like I do, make sure you let your water sit for one day to let the chlorine evaporate before watering or adding fertilizer. I have found the chlorine in the water does more damage than any fertilizer. You can alway water from the top once a month to keep salts and excess fertilizer from building up. Many people who wick or bottom water need to do this as well. Fertilizer will eventually build up in the mix and ultimately kill the plant. And did I mention,I grow mine in a north window, no lights! Hope this will help. davioletman...See MoreHAVE: Dirt genius seedling heat mat 20.5"x48" used 1 month
Comments (2)I'll have rooted cuttings later in the summer, like by mid-July. I have some plants that were propagated from cuttings in 2012 which don't really qualify as rooted cuttings any more because of their size, but I could see if any are small enough to ship bareroot in the next couple weeks. I only like very fragrant roses also. I live in Zone 4 and I pile compost or woodchips over the plants each fall, and they've all survived several winters here. You can take a look at my trade list or let me know if you' like me to post what I have here. Thanks! Tony...See More20 x 20 tile on the diagonal?
Comments (13)Thanks everyone for your helpful replies! Monica, your picture is exactly the visual aid I needed. I am one of those people who has no imagination and cannot picture in my head how something will look. I always need to see an example. I can't thank you enough for posting this pic. I LOVE the way the large tiles look in this larger space. Funny thing is, I think I my bath tiles are the same ones you have in your kitchen! I'm not 100% positive because I don't have a sample tile in front of me at the moment, but from what I see in the picture, I sure think they are the same ones! Mongo, I re-read my original post and realize that I wasn't clear--I should have specified that I'm getting a corian shower pan. The tiles are going on the shower walls and bathroom floor. Bill, I will definitely discuss this with the contractor today. Even though it'll most likely cost more, this is one of those things I think will be worth splurging on. After seeing Monica's picture, I think it looks great and I'll be sorry if I don't do it....See MoreDoes anyone have Zojirushi Q20 Bread Machine?
Comments (6)donnar57 - Thanks for the link. I downloaded the PDF yesterday and printed out the manual. It would have been nice if it came with the machine. I emailed Zojirushi and asked them the age of this model and if it could be fixed (fingers crossed it never needs it) and this was the reply. I'm impressed, they got back to me right away. "The BBCC-Q20 was discontinued in 1998 and all the replacement parts have been exhausted. The parts are not interchangeable with other models. I apologize for the inconvenience. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions." At least I only paid $30 for it, so I will use it till it breaks. I have had a Welbilt for over 20 (25?) years and it is still going strong. I always wanted a Zojirushi ever since I read about them on this forum. I have wanted to make whole wheat bread and my old one wasn't powerful enough, plus it only does 1 lb. loaves. Clare...See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
