One possibility might be to list several ingredients in a line, perhaps the items that one works together, e.g. butter and the sugars on one line, tabbed across, the eggs and vanilla on the second, flour, salt and baking soda on the third and the oatmeal, walnuts and raisins on a fourth, tabbing each to make columns, for reduced confusion.

Peanut Butter Cookies

1/2 C. soft shortening-half butter, 1/2 C. peanut butter, 1/2 C. sugar, 1/2 C. brown sugar, packed, 1 egg. Mix together thoroughly.

Sift together and stir into cream mixture: 1 1/4 C. flour, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 3/4 tsp. baking soda.

Chill dough. Roll into balls size of large walnuts. Place 3 " apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten with fork dipped in flour - criss-cross pattern. Bake in preheated oven, 375 10 -12 minutes. Makes about 3 dozen.

This one is a new one for me but I really like it.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

1/2 C. Crisco, 1/2 C. margarine, softened, 1 C. packed brown sugar, 3/4 C. sugar, 1 C. peanut butter....Cream together until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time. Combine 1 1/2 C. A.P. flour, 2 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. salt. Mix into creamed mixture. Mix in oats. Drop by tsp. onto parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake 10 - 15 min. or until just light brown. Do not overbake.

My husband loves them and I've been looking for a recipe for awhile. He will be happy I love it when someone will share a good tried and true recipe.

Just talked to my son today. His favorite cookie. He likes soft and chewy. Hope your hubby likes them. Been making them for almost 50 years. I guess you could say they were tried and true!

one more question.....What kind of oats do you use....regular or quick cooking ?

I have quick cooking here but if I need reg. I will pick up some while I'm out today.

Either will do. I use regular because that's what I eat but I think most cookie recipes call for quick cooking so you're good to go.

This year I'm trying to steamline my Christmas cookie baking as much as possible. I'm thinking of making basic chocolate chip (Tollhouse) cookie dough but dividing the dough into different addins- like cc's and pecans, dried fruits, peanut butter chips, etc. I'll also make my all-time favorite cookie, Mexican Tea cakes. But no cut-outs. Too much work! Just think of me as Ms. Grinch.
