Need help deciding between free-standing and deck-mounted bathtub
Comments (18)The WetStyle f/s tub has a removable tray that sits across the tub. I like numberjunkie's idea of a shelf or ledge behind the tub for placing items and also like the idea of having the shower wall next to the tub tiled half-way up to have a space for installing a grab bar. WetStyle has an optional shelf that surrounds the tub, but I think it would make it more challenging to get in and out of the tub - would need to hop over the shelf. The drop-in tub I was initially considering was 72"x42" but that would likely not fit, so would need to be 72"x36". This weekend I looked at an open house (new construction) in my area that had a drop-in tub with a narrow space for the deck surround (see attached photo). The deck was tiled on the top and on the apron with white subway tile. I noticed that with the narrow deck space (about 2") and the tub overhang, it would be awkward to sit on the edge of the tub and swing my legs in or out of the tub. Wiithout space for a deck that is wide enough to comfortably sit on, ease of entry or exit may come down to depth of the tub and options for placement of grab bars. The Wetstyle tub is 22" deep; the drop-in tubs are generally deeper, more like 26"...See MoreFeature wall in bathroom behind freestanding tub or not.
Comments (7)OK, this is what I would do, and is just my opinion. I wouldn't tile the wall, especially with the 'horizontal looking' tile that you show. I think it will make the ceiling look even lower. I wouldn't do an accent wall, either, although I don't know how long you plan to be in the home before putting it on the market. If you really feel that you must do something, I'd suggest wallpaper on that one wall. This is a good article - http://blog.wallsrepublic.com/2014/11/06/need-know-wallpaper-bathroom/#type The paper could be removed before putting the house on the market, if you choose something that you really like but isn't 'mainstream' at the time you want to sell. You wouldn't be locked into an expensive tile that future buyers may not like as much as you do. From this article - http://www.stonegableblog.com/home-decor-trend-2017/ I don't show this to make you feel bad, believe me, as I am sure there are other articles that say that gray in still on trend. GRAY Rooms that are predominantly gray have seen their heyday and quickly becoming trite! Personally, I like the look but could never live with so much gray. OTHER TRENDS THAT ARE SAYING… GOODBYE! chevron pattern heavy window treatments watery pastels accent walls naked windows mirrored furniture tiled counter tops all white rooms subway tile (oh, no!)...See MoreFixtures for freestanding bathtub
Comments (3)I have a floor mounted tub filler. I wish I had my faucet mounted into the wall. I think it's a better look and easier to clean. I didn't have a choice because of the location of my tub. If you have the choice, it's cheaper and better to go with wall mounted IMHO. Cheaper and better are not words we get to use together very often when we remodel :-)...See MoreFreestanding bathtub in the shower - pros/cons
Comments (26)My friends have this set up in their home in Kyoto. You take a shower first so you are clean then you get inside the soaking tub. The soaking tub is not drained for days and has a heater inside so the water stays hot, similar to a hot tub but without the jets. Toilet and sink are in a separate closet nearby. It's been awhile since I've visited but I recall the "shower" part was a wall with multiple hand sprayers (so multiple people could wash up at same time). It included stools you could sit on while you washed up. The soaking tub was quite large with a deck around it and could fit multiple people. I don't remember the floor being slippery. I do remember feeling icked out when I learned the tub was drained infrequently -- until I realized everyone took a shower before soaking. Basically to answer your question, in such an arrangement, you aren't wiping it out everyday. It stays wet and gets drained and cleaned once a week....See Moremrspete
