Removing a wood burning stove

See the attached photo. See the big TV in the foreground? That needs to go where the wood burning stove is. My plan is to get in the attic and disconnect the stove pipe from the part that goes out through the roof. I hope to leave the part outside part intact. I'll stuff the pipe hanging in the attic with insulation, and then patch the ceiling. Does this sound like a good plan?

My other idea is to see if a local handyman would take it out and patch the ceiling in exchange for keeping the wood burning stove for himself.
