when do I bring them inside?
Comments (1)Most will be fine until frost. But, if you want to head off a bunch of last minute digging up and potting up and hauling in at the last minute when first frost actually arrives, you can start to do a few at a time now and continue until...first frost! Or, you can try to leave them in the ground and cover with frostcloth if you have to....See MoreWhen/How low the temp should I bring my Cacti and Succulent in?
Comments (20)Im in zone 9 southern california (in a valley of hell named Perris) so alot of things can stay out during winter :D But there is, of coarse, those that need cold protection such as Kalanchoe, pachypodium, and Asclepiads. As of now, we are still having 90s during the day, and around 60-70 at night. Last year was really the first year i got into succulents, and i started to bring thing into my green house in mid october, and that is finally when temps start to get 40-50 at night here. The average winter temps here are around 40 at night, but sometimes it can dip to 26. We even had snow in 2007, and that is when i almost lost one of my beloved aloes D: Id say, bring them inside the green house is good for you right now, just to be on the safe side, as the temps are reaching 50 and lower. I really wish i could start having a cool down here......See MoreWrap Them Up or Bring Them In?
Comments (5)J, Conventional wisdom in the North Eastern U.S.A. is to place containerized figs in an unheated attached garage (or something similar) to overwinter. Depending on how severe the winter is, some folks will wrap their fig plants in the garage as well. I live in zone 6a and place my figs in my garage unwrapped and have not lost a plant yet. By the way I don't know what you mean about 'fig sticks.' If you are try to root cuttings or need more information about wrapping trees I recommend you search this forum for previous posts. Comments (2)Hi Beth... - Your ? sent me back to my garden journal, when I first got caught in this wonderful realm of HYDRANGEA - driven by a rare cancer, hitting a beautiful, very young relative, I purchased my first 3 Big Smile H serrata - a fund raiser for Ca research, a great cause bushes to set in my piece of soil, I thought. I read the tag and followed planting recommendation. I did more search & found this great H forum!!! Â:) I very soon learned of the likely 8ft ht x 6+ft wd, stature at maturity - It was JULY by then. The experienced Lacecap afficionadoes in this forum, said I had plenty of time & wait 'til Spring to do the move. The response came not soon enough - it was Jul 20 '06 & already moved one to a better site ... dappled shade & more room, deeply watered & closely watched (I left the 2nd one where she was, as advised, 'til Apr '07) She did fine caught up in size & # of blooms with the one planted initially in same area. Sorry for the long narrative - IMHO you will be just fine planting it now as long as you have an ideal site to set yours in. Another thought would be to sink the pot in the prepared hole you have and wait for cooler days to set in permanently. However, the sooner your Lacecap's roots could start developing in her new home, the better, I think! Good luck & enjoy!!! Â:)...See Morepip313
