Advice on Bathroom Tile - Porcelain Subway, Carrara Marble mix
Comments (23)Thank you so much to everyone for the advice. That's what I was afraid of...too many elements. It's an older home and I want to keep the "charm" of an older space. I was planning to use honed black granite for the counter tops. It's going to primarily function as a kid's bathroom. I am using the antique brick in a few other areas of the house. I recognize the riskiness here, but was hoping it would come across with a charm that is original to the home. The antique brick blends better with the other elements in the home than the carrara does. I'm still not sure how to bring it all together. I know that the white porcelain is timeless. Will the carrara/black and white bath be outdated, considering it's been such a popular choice the last couple of years? What about the subway tiles? Comments (11)Oh I didn't think about cleaning the carrara... is it really that difficult? Ugh... I love the hex border idea. I thought about an area rug, but I'm nervous about getting the spacing wrong without the tub in place. Or having real rugs overlap with the tile one. I'm also nervous about putting them around the tub in case the tub goes in place and they are off centered or something. I have OCD fears ;) Thank you for showing me photos of your lovely bathroom shanghaimom! Any suggestions for a backspash? I'm thinking about a blue-ish wall color too. Comments (15)I have Carrara marble tile in my guest bath and Calacatta marble tile in my master bath. I don't have maintenance issues with my tile. As a precaution I ONLY stock cleaning products that are safe for marble so no one can make a mistake. I have toilet bowl cleaner that is safe for marble and a mirror cleaner that is also safe for marble. Actually I use a cleaner that is safe for marble, stone AND mirrors. Your particular tile is meant to light residential use on floors so it is not standard marble flooring which doesn't carry that specific warning - or at least mine didn't. That said, I would personally install such a tile in my guest bath if it worked aesthetically in the space because my guest bath gets very little use....See Morecarrara marble grade C--able to source tiles and counter?
Comments (1)You need to go to the most reputable stone suppliers in your area; they tend to only work in stones and will offer the best selection. Keep in mind though, that slabs, tiles and mosaics are not generally cut together from the same blocks and get sold off at different times....See Moreshelbyroo
