Some Ozarks Fall Color: VERY Picture Heavy
Comments (44)My turn... with Ark's blessing I'm going to post some fall pics taken in Fort Smith yesterday. Unfortunately, the trees peaked 2-3 days before I could get the camera out and most trees lost a LOT of color, especially the sugar maples. Some pics were taken at my house, some on the side of the road and some just off the road in town. Let's start with sugar maple pics: Acer saccharum By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 Liriodendron tulipifera By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 Prunus spp By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 The camera really did not do justice to the last two pics above. Comments (16)I want them all now. Looks like I will have to add one this year. Whass, did your 'White lightening' obtain much verigation last year? I emailed Lucile Whitman about a year ago trying to obtain some info to help me decide between 'Majestic Butterflies' (another verigated ginkgo) and 'White Lightening'. She said that the verigation in most of the verigated ginkgos were not very prominent. She was nice enough to say that if I contacted her after they leafed out that she would pick me out a good one. Unfortunately I got preoccupied with other plants and forgot to contact her. Thanks everyone for your enabling =^)...See MoreGinkgo ID ??
Comments (11)Thank you! I like to know what a plant is. This one got off to a strange start at the nursery so may not be typical. I liked the way the trunk developed. Not sure where to post pictures, but here is one more ginkgo since it's on topic- bought it as Spring Grove- believe it is now called Jehoshaphat. Planted this in 2006, it's almost 4 feet tall now- juts out every which way. I have never shaped it, probably won't. To the left is a Motherlode juniper, and a picea abies Mariana, and to the right is a CJ pine limping along after the brutal winter. This bed is full sun/full exposure and I have never tried to protect the CJ- maybe this winter I will. It really is a cute little tree even though it burns. I am thinking it's on P. sylvestris stock. I contacted Gossler Farms to ask but they haven't responded yet. In the background is a weeping Norway spruce and some juniper spirals that took a beating this winter...plus I think they have tip blight. They may have to come out soon. At any rate, these are a few of my babies! I have found this forum very helpful over the years. I am indebted to many of you on here for guidance, even thought I haven't really posted before! :) Thanks again!...See MoreFall color 2015 thread
Comments (137)One advantage of "Mexican Dogwood", Cornus florida subsp. urbiniana, besides the odd looking flowers: it is extremely late to color. Which, in my climate that seldom has a freeze before Thanksgiving, is OK. Other dogwoods have already dropped most of their leaves and this is just starting to color....See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
