Drain field for water softener.

We're building a house that will use a septic system. The softener cannot drain into the septic of course, but not sure how to drain it off?

Is this something common? We want the softener for the feel of the water more than anything. Of course keeping the plumbing clean and the washer and dishwasher is a major plus.

I haven't researched any softeners yet; the last one we had was on our first house in 1993. That one just drained into a gravel filled hole. Since it was Florida, the soil was porous enough to let it run through.

Here in Texas, the soil is not as porous.

Thanks for any advice
