Upholstery Fabric For Sofa
Comments (0)I would welcome recommendations on the most durable fabric to choose for sofa upholstery, preferably from your own experience! I am aware of the double rub grading when it comes to commercial fabrics but unfortunately this is usually not available on readily available fabrics for residential use. We are looking to replace our current sofa which was slipcovered in 100% cotton and this has definitely not been durable. I am guessing a high polyester content would be better. Has anybody had a good/bad experience with velvet type fabrics? Thanks!...See MoreThomasville or Kincaid? Any thoughts?
Comments (4)misspugs, My advice would be to try to find out if either of the companies are using solid wood or even wood veneers in their furniture. Many companies that used to be considered good quality 15 years ago, are now using pressed wood instead of real solid wood. I have a Hooker dining set I bought in 2008 and found out afterward that it is made of almost all compressed wood, not hardwood. The top looks like wood but I soon realized it is painted to look like wood. Wherever there is a dent, I see the whitish pressed wood showing. ugh. it is hard to find real solid wood furniture anymore. Good luck with your search! FYI I found that Amish furniture is made with real solid hardwood, the way furniture used to be made. The styles selections are huge (from country to shaker to modern) and the prices are pretty good also. I have a few pieces and they are wonderful, (No, I am not working for them!! ) Ginny...See MoreKincaid Furniture Opinions

We purchased a night table, dresser, mirror and chest online from NC, and saved over $1000 (incl shpg). This was after seeing it in a local store of course. We had the king bed custom made to match as they didn't have one in the collection. Anyway, it has held up structurally, but the finish is slowly showing wear. I am disappointed in that aspect, but overall it's solid....See MoreExperience with Revolution Upholstery fabric??
