Dryer Max Dryer Balls
Comments (26)Dear Cynic, Those dryer brushes are certainly worth it. Using the Samurai Appliance Guru guide information for my dryer, I unplugged, pulled out, and dismantled my dryer in June. I had changed the bag in my Miele vacuum the day before. Well, I FILLED the new bag with just the lint from inside my dryer and the connector to the floor hole. My husband cleaned the vent under the house from the floor to the outside wall with a brush that attaches to his hand drill and his shop vac. This was lint inside the dryer that escaped past the lint filter that I clean every time I run the dryer. It took half a day, and it was worth the time and effort. What a fire hazard! I will do this at least every year from now on. I didn't measure the time it saved in drying clothes. Comments (12)I have yet to try the wool balls, but did try the spiky balls. Though they worked fine, when I found that they were made of PVC (even the so called all natural ones) I nixed using them and went back to what I have been doing for the last thirty three years. I use wash clothes in "odd colors", put the liquid softener in a garden spray bottle and spritz the cloths about five times and toss them in the dryer on top of whatever I'm drying. At first you may have to add an extra spritz each time, but before long they'll last through fifty or more loads without adding more softener. In the past thirty years I've bought three bottles of fabric softener and the current one has very little gone from the spray bottle and there's still some in the bottle it was purchased in. My softener (and detergent) of choice are Natural Elements Ultra Purex products. I won't use anything else. The reason I'll not use anything but Purex Natural Elements products: "Purex leads the way in laundry innovation with sustainability methods to reduce, reuse and reinvent Purex laundry packaging for a healthy world. Purex is committed to developing products that are readily biodegradable, free of NPE’s, APE’s and phosphates. Because of Purex’s commitment to using safer alternatives, the United States E.P.A. Design for the Environment program was awarded Champion Status for the Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative."...See MoreWhat is the purpose of dryer balls?
Comments (6)They are supposed to help keep clothes separated in the dryer and reduce drying time. I think they do a little. As far as static...the only load I ever used a half dryer sheet in was the polar fleece pullovers DH wore when working or they would snap and crackle at me as I removed them from the dryer. Very little success using the wool dryer balls with those. I have a nice set, organic wool - and only occasionally think to put them in the dryer. Maybe I should try them more often, my electric bill this time of year is ghastly ;0) and all but the office and garage are gas heat. (dryer electric as are two hot water tanks)...See Moredryer balls....anyone use them?
Comments (24)I've made my own, like Donna Loomis, for several years. Just like she makes hers. I use white vinegar in the rinse, and the dryer balls in the dryer. If you get static with them, just don't dry the clothes quite as long, or lightly mist with a water bottle and the static is gone. I do NOT use essential oils with mine, as we both have major issues with scented products and perfumes. And if you do, remember, a little goes a long way. It might not smell strong at first, but when heated, it will reallly smell! I have 7 in the dryer right now. I made extra for taking with us in the RV, but when we are not traveling, they come in the house and get used....See MorePawprint
