Not to bust your chops but this subject has been beaten to death many times. Try a search if you have any further questions. With that said, most ppl will tell you its best to keep them somewhere where they will remain DORMANT, that requires minimal or no light at all. Be sure to keep them somewhere where they will remain above freezing temps but no warmer than say 45* otherwise they may wake up too soon. Keep an eye out for the soil, do not let it get too dry.

You might change it up to a slightly larger pot, then plant the whole thing into the ground. I have had good luck with putting potted plants in the ground then lifting them out come spring. Sometimes the place I want is not ready, or I run out of time, weather goes bad. Get the fall sales stuff so cheap I can't resist buying too much! This way is easy to over winter them. I fill the pot to the brim with dirt, level pot edge into the ground, so water doesn't pool up on the top. The larger pot will allow root growth over winter if ground is not frozen. I would cover it with a large pile of leaves to protect the crown on a special baby clematis.

Either way it should be fine. I just wouldn't leave it as is. If you decide to leave it in its current spot, then dig it up, remove the pot, wash off the planting mix, spread out the roots and replant it. If you decide to bring it into your garage, dig it up, wash off the current mix and then repot it in a slightly larger pot with new mix. In either case don't add fertilizer. Do this as soon as it's cool enough (i.e. not 90 degrees). If you pot it up then make sure it stays in the shade until frost. Keep it well watered until it goes dormant. Steve

Up here a garage makes sense in winter for a lot of plants, down in TX I think the garage will get too warm on sunny days (which is most of them in winter) and coax them into early growth. Better to leave them in the coolest, shadiest place you can find outside where, as Tornado points out, you will be less likely to need water them. In my garage, even in winter, I still need to water deciduous stuff about once a month because the dry air sucks moisture out of the soil. They don't need a lot of water of course, but you don't want it to get bone dry. Evergreens actively transpire...camellias are the worse. Sometimes needing water more than once a week if it gets really cold and dry. (the garage is kept at or near 32F minimum, barring insulating malfunctions) It doesn't help that Camellia Forest uses a very friable bark based mix that doesn't hold much water. Makes you appreciate why they need strong root systems in marginal climates, and why I've lost plants like 'Red Jade' even at temps above 0F if they were in spots with winter morning sun. It just dries them right out.
