Fall reflections

User

Now that winter will be setting in soon, I've been reflecting on my first year as a rose newbee. I think it was a success! I planted 3 easy elegance roses, a William Baffin, and a New Dawn. I didn't do anything special except dead heading and picked off the japanese beatles. I am so pleased with how the Easy Elegance roses did that I plan on planting a few more varieties in the spring. My William Baffin did quite well too considering I almost killed it by mistake before I got it in the ground.

I'm a bit surprised that my New Dawn didn't do so great. It had a nice repeat bloom, but the bugs pretty much devoured all of the leaves and this occurred throughout the entire summer on new growth as well. None of my other roses or perennials were touched. I thought this rose was pretty low maintenance? Any ideas for what I can do differently to prevent this next year?
