The seat depth & height would determine how well the sofa would "fit" you; whether it would seat you at the correct dept to fit to you knees or if you would sit too far back or to far forward. The height would be how your legs from the knee bend down sit. if you can place your feet on the floor or not. The seating comfort would be determined by the cushion a down cushion would be softer & require fluffing on a regular basis; it will also give a more relaxed look. A foam cushion would be firmer & give a more tailored look. A spring down cushion will usually include springs wrapped in a poly fiber & then topped with a down blend offering the softness & support along with a more tailored look; these would still require fluffing.

This style was discontinued as of July 27th, 2015. However, they are still accepting orders for this frame. A date has not been set to stop selling so yes you should probably not wait forever if you do want to order this style from B & Y. Being a two over two style is does keep the appearance of shorter than it actually is. The actual outside width is 83.5" leaving an inside width of 73.5". That inside width is a good size for laying down. The over all height is 34.5" will not provide full support for your neck and head. The seat cushions come standard with premier down . You can see from the photo you provided that the seating surface is designed to relax and puddle for a lived in look. Usually for a more casual appeal. The inside seat depth is 22.5" which is good for both tall and short people. Measure a piece you already have in your home and see what depth and height fits you the best. This style is a good seller in the B&Y line that is why no date has been set to stop manufacturing. B & Y when you purchased 16 years ago was a family run company now they have been bought by The Hooker Furniture Company and are one of many under their umbrella. You can expect to see some differences in their manufacturing techniques. The biggest difference is they are now using engineered wood for their frames when back when you purchased the brand prior they used solid hardwood frames. The next difference you will find is over 50% of the leathers they use to upholster are from China vs back when you bought before they used mostly domestic hides. So over all customer feedback has been positive about this style.

Thank you Wellington and Elite for your responses. I have a couple of questions. If this style was a good seller, why is it being discontinued? One of the things that I like so much about it is that it only has 2 cushions across. What we have now has 2 across (two over two?) and I find it to be more comfortable (less sitting in the crack!) It seems that the vast majority of sofas have 3. Why? Last question now. Is there a way to know which leathers come from China? I'd really rather not have that. What does the grade of the leather tell you about how it will wear? Does it stand to reason that a grade 5 will wear better than a grade 1? Thank you so much for all the help.

Manufacturers have to knowledge the country or origin , so yes the leather samples will show this. It is not uncommon for manufacturers to add and drop styles if its not a good seller. And usually that depends on how well it sits, if it doesn't sit well then it usually doesn't sell well. But because manufacturers want to make a sell, they will build discontinued styles if they still have the frame drawings and patterns. As previously suggested; compare the dimensions, because B&Y policy will most likely not let you return it if you don't like how it sits. Also the leather grades usually the higher grade is better quality, but you should be aware the different types of leather and related characteristics to wear and soiling.

The 2 over 2 style is just not as popular as the 3 over 3. I like it, many don't. I have sold B&Y for over 20 years and just now learned at the International furniture show a few weeks ago only because I asked the direct question about the origin of their leathers, that many of their leather come from China. The reason I posed the question was there have been some delayed orders because of leather delays, which is not a common occurrence with them. I am sure other manufactures are selling leathers from China I just had no idea that B & Y was out sourcing that amount of their leathers. Most of the higher grades are of European or Domestic origin. I was unable to locate any printed information that explained the origin of their leathers. I only have this knowledge because I asked the right person at market. All of B&Y's leathers are genuine and top grain cowhide or buffalo. Keep in mind we as Americans import everything from China. Some things great and some things not. If you are concerned about the origin of a particular pattern just ask. A good sales person will place a call if they don't have the answer. Many furniture builders buy hides from all around the world this is nothing new. It was just never shared with me the amount of hides from China that they were using. Hooker Furniture imports all of their leather furniture styles. B&Y also offers a married cover program that originates in China. As mentioned all of B & Y's leathers are top grain (this is what you want). The difference in the grades are the finish. Some protected, some distressed, some not. Your higher grades tend to be more natural causing them to be more susceptible to spills and scratches. The rule of thumb about leather is the more you do to the leather the less valuable it becomes. That is why lower end manufactures use painted leather not aniline dyed or they will use lower grade hides with more scars or blemishes. Always the higher the grade the higher the cost. You will find many alike leather finishes available in grades 1, 2 and 3.

So then aniline dyed is a good thing?

Aniline dyed means the color has been soaked all the way through the hide. Also, a pure aniline leather has no protection on the surface. If you need any degree of protection you would be looking for an aniline plus or semi aniline dyed leather.

We tend to be rough on furniture I think. It's mostly just the 2 of us, and one large dog (who likes to sleep on the couch). I wish I knew what leather our current couches are. I know they were 9191-85, but that was 16 years ago. I'm ready to order new, but can't make a decision! I don't want to order without trying, but I do love the way this couch looks. I wish I could find one to try.

One reason BY could be discontinuing this style is that they can no longer get the frame from the supplier & they are filling order from frames they currently have in stock until they no longer have the frame. Stay away from the married leathers as Wellington has said these are most definitely from China & probably cut & sewn in China. I do think that the cut & sewn patterns are still applied to the frame here in the states. The Hooker leather pieces usually come as shown and are entirely imported. Price would reflect that also. Aniline dyed are higher grade leathers

The leather you have is indeed gone from the line. Here is what you can do. If you want a leather like what you have (color,type etc...) look underneath the center seat cushion of your sofa and there should be a leather swatch attached approx. 4 X 6". It was placed there by B&Y for just this reason. Cut off about half of it and take it to the store where you are shopping and they should be able to assist you with a suitable replacement or you can send it to me and I can identify the color and type and do the same thing. Someone who is familiar with the line can do this is about a minute. This is nothing new to us we do it weekly.

FYI; Section 304 of the Tariff Act of 1930 as amended (19 U.S.C. § 1304) requires most imports,[which?] including many food items, to bear labels informing the ultimate purchaser of their country of origin.

That label would probably be available on items in stock at a retail store but in the case of special order the purchaser would not have access to the labels until delivered to them so it would be up to the retailer to get this information to the purchaser prior to the order being placed.
