Comments (16)kweenofkings, Your imagination on this is over the top! I just happen to have one of those that I drug over to the bird garden and filled with water during our ice storm so I could give the little darlings a drink! Never once thought about fixing it up until I saw yours! It still has the arm on it that was attached to the house. Wonder if I could just attach it to something and have it free standing? I know that if I used glass for the bottom that a pebble or something thrown by the weed eater or rider mower would have it broken in no time, Or... I have several large hollow stumps that it could sit in. Oh thank you, thank you for the great idea. You did a wonderful job with the mosaic design. What did you seal it with? I have put in as wallpaper on my puter so DH can see it and get inspired as well. Thanks for sharing, Ellen...See MoreAnother use for old small satellite dishes
Comments (17)Welcome whatnext. I think those satellite dishes are the uglyist things just hanging around. I'm glad to see more ideas on how to beautify them & put the old ones to use. Thanks for sharing. No more lurking, you're one of the family now. Vickie...See MoreSatellite Dishes - Internet Security
Comments (22)C'mon Mikie, this is silly. Yes, Broadband reports is a legit website, but this wasn't an item they reported, it was a forum post. Forums have no reputation, they're forums. Secondly, if you read more than the first few sentences of a page full of comments, you'll find what was alleged was viewed as an aberration caused by a rare configuration error. Indeed, it's mentioned that the Docsis standard provides security. Grandms, what mikie is suggesting (but not substantiating) and that I remain unconvinced of, is that there is a security risk down the wire. WPA is security for a Wifi signal, something completely different. Whew....See MoreThat old satellite dish
Comments (2)If you wanted to try using it for hot water, I'm sure you could point it south, run some coil tubing in it's center for your domestic hot water to detour through, much like I did with my compost water heater system. Lining the dish with aluminum foil or black paint would probably get it pretty hot and would get most benefit when using hot water with the sun out and winterizing for freezing weather....See Morenancyjane_gardener
