I need some soft close dampers for my cabinet doors
Comments (36)I installed these on all my kitchen cabinet doors after a facelift remodel: https://www.rokhardware.com/hardware-fasteners/soft-close-add-ons/blumotion-soft-close-with-spacer-screws-polybag.html I think I got mine from Rockler for about $3 each, but a lot of places sell them. I installed them all using a Dremel stylus. My cabs are full overlay. No problems. It's been 5 years and nary a slam. I wasn't sure if I'd need the adapter piece, so I ordered one. Ended up not needing the adapter so saved some money getting devices without. Laurie, my doors are painted maple shaker with MDF inserts. They are not super heavy. The door doesn't just up and close on its own. You give it a bit of a shove, as you would with a door that doesn't soft close, and momentum does the rest....See MoreSoft close hinges on old doors
Comments (3)For 3/8 inset doors, you don't have many options for soft-close and hidden. There is one by Salice. I was attempting the same thing on a bath vanity. Salice was kind enough to send me a sample but in the end it would not work for us as our doors were too thin and we did not have a drill press. The part number they sent me was CBP2A99 for the hinge and BAR3R69 for the steel clip. Call them at 1-800-222-9652 to see if they can send you a sample and catalog as well. If not, I would send you the one I have but you will need to pay for shipping. BUT be warned, these are very expensive hinges. Will almost cost $30 a pair. Would have been cheaper for me to buy new doors. In the end, we ended up using a knife hinge from Youngdale for lipped doors....See MoreCan someone educate me on soft close cabinet hinges?
Comments (31)Keep in mind that there are two elements to the upcharge: The hardware cost difference and the labor cost difference. Most of the cabinetmakers I have talked with have said that they initially upcharged for the Tandem undermount soft-close slides. However, once they'd used them a few times, they realized they were saving a lot of time on installation because the slides are so forgiving and adjustable - so many cabinetmakers no longer upcharge for those slides. IMO anyone who tries to talk you out of those slides just doesn't want to learn any new tricks. And agreed with the comment above: Plan for those drawer slides now - the retrofit soft close bumpers don't compare at all....See MoreNo Name Soft Close Hinge Replacement
Comments (6)I took one to HD but the man who helped me had to send me to Rockler Woodworking. Very helpful there and had a suitable Blum replacement. I’ve had to call in someone to install as I simply can’t do it myself. Need new holes fir the frame side and I want to make sure it’s not screwed up. I have some other minor work to be done so it’s all good. Thanks....See Morejaviwa
