A 15-gallon pot is likely to be 18" across & nearly as high. If concerned about water stains from a pot standing on deck or balcony, you might pick up pot feet as an alternative to a wheeled dolley. They fit under the bottom rim to raise the pot, run a couple of dollars each & you'd need four for a pot that size. Usually found with the pots outside, as they also keep a pot from freezing to a bottom surface & cracking. Often use them & just slide a saucer beneath for water to drain to which can be emptied & removed in between waterings. Might consider using a few inches of mulch atop the soil to keep it cooler & delay moisture evaporation (kept from touching the stems) & pine straw for that is fine. Also keeps soil from splashing out in watering or rain. The potting mix you used contains slow-release fertilizer, but as others have noted, you'll need quick-release fertilizer for pots as well. The rule of thumb is "weakly, weekly" meaning fertilizer diluted in water at 1/4 the concentration on the bottle for monthly feeding, given weekly by pouring on soil already moist. Some of the fertilizers are very salty & can build up a residue on top of the soil & interior of the pot. Prefer fish emulsion myself. What a romantic gesture from your boyfriend! My climate is not anything like yours (I live in eastern Washington) but I have had good luck with old fashioned shrub roses (mainly once blooming) and some hybrid musks and polyanthas (repeat blooming). I do have two yellow knock out roses (from Lowe's sale) with pink edges...and they fade to an ivory as they age. They're very pretty and I really like them. I think they look great, mixed in with lavender and pink perennials...and maybe cosmos and stock (annuals). Celsiana is one of my favorite old fashioned shrub roses. It's a damask and it blooms for a long time...four to six weeks. Here's a picture (not mine) that inspired me to get Celsiana. From Lavender's Garden Echo (Baby Tausendschon) from Rogue Valley Roses is a pretty little rose, too. I don't know how it is with humid conditions, but it does very well, in my garden. Jessica you will probably get a variety of answers so I suggest reading some to find what you think is the best answer for you. Locally Extensions services based on info from Texas A&M agricultural research says you can replant in 10-14 days. RRD is carried by a mite that will vacate a rose once it starts to die. If you have gotten all the roots out then you can replant. Since the mites blow in the wind and can be carried a long way you may or may not have damage to other roses in your yard. If you had any diseased KO that had canes touching other roses and you didn't take them out you should watch the other roses for disease very carefully. In addition to the mites blowing in the wind they walk from cane to cane.
