Pretty Jessica Available at Heirloom
Comments (7)Hi Ingrid, Thank you for the post. I am so gun shy with this rose, as I ordered it from Heirloom and/or Rogue last summer only to have the orders canceled. Also, from Heirloom, PJ would be the one thing I have certainly sworn off, "a band". Unless I view the rose as SPECIAL, which to me, Pretty Jessica is not , I am done babying those little things. I have three that remain from the summer that I am likely to gift. Again, thank you for supplying this information for those of us who have been frantically searching for this rose. Lynn...See MoreA question for those who grow Pretty Jessica
Comments (6)As the person who contributed the above photograph and have grown Pretty Jessica for several years now, I can attest that the above photo is a true representation of her. Mine always shows the globular, cupped form in my photo. However, when roses are still young and immature, the first blooms are not always true to form and so therefore you cannot judge what their ultimate form will be. When the plant is mature it will no doubt show this form (assuming you didn't get a mislabled rose!)...but of course, their are other variables such as climate, soil, fertilizer, etc. I live where summers are not too hot and the growing season short (zone 4 NH) and the winters very harsh. Pretty Jessica does wonderfully here and always looks just like she looks above in my photo, right up to the killing frosts. Celeste...See MorePretty Jessica: What size container for her?
Comments (5)I haven't had mine that long, but for what it is worth, here is my experience. I bought my Pretty Jessica as a grafted container plant about 10 months ago mid (Southern Hemisphere) spring; repotted into a 30 cm (12 inch = 5 gallon as far as I can judge) pot ever since, and she seems happy. So far there has been slow but steady growth ; I'm guessing a lot of of energy goes into her blooms,as she has been fairly generous with them, and they really are enormous and fragrant compared to her overall size. She is currently about 2.5 ft tall, but fairly upright and going on previous growth there are no immediate plans to repot Stays very healthy-leaves tend to look a bit "dry" sometimes, when they get a bit older I've noticed they seem to curl down at the edges a little; it was an extremely hot summer here last year, but the curling continued even when the weather cooled and it was raining quite a lot. And here is a pic, just because I cant resist :)...See MoreHeritage - Pretty Jessica - Pacific Serenade
Comments (14)Christina: My 'Heritage' was a large 2-gallon own-root rose from the Antique Rose Emporium when it was planted. So, it did not take very long to get established. But, yes, its blooms have gotten better and larger each year. And it is more productive every year ... this year it pumped out blooms steadily since spring. And I am thankful that it self-cleans its spent blooms, so when I get behind on deadheading, the plant still looks good. That is important with a light colored rose that blooms all the time. Glad you enjoyed, Serena. Randy...See Moreseil zone 6b MI
