Comments (8)Merit is a real antique among hybrids ( Asgrow released it in 1961). Asgrow, Peto, and Royal Sluis were acquired by Monsanto and combined into Seminis in the 90's. Most Asgrow intros have been discontinued. Most of the big seed developers are chemical companies and they have been merging for the last couple decades. Monsanto is currently being considered by Bayer for a buyout. whichever way that goes, Seminis has been concentrating on the commercial market and discontinuing varieties that are no longer competitive. They don't appear to have a single Su in thier current line up. Sometimes a variety that is popular with home gardeners will be picked up by a minor company wwhich caters to home gardeners....See MoreCorn plant, pending disaster :(
Comments (6)After no reply here for a week, I decided to cut the top of the big stalk off just under the two branches that were black with a saw at a slight angle. Where the cut is has developed a white growth across it (mold??). The smaller middle stalk and branches is still very green and healthy looking. Not sure whether to remove the big stalk from this pot or just leave it be....See MoreSweet corn not so sweet
