You might have skinks. They look something like salamanders, and do eat some worms in my area. I've had them hang around my greenhouse worm bins, seemingly unafraid that I would do anything to them. I suspect that they spend some of their time in the moist environs of the bins, having snacks on both the worms and the waste materials. They act very friendly sometimes, and I think they could be easy to tame, if desired; I've not had the urge to tame them. The link has more info, and even comments on their tame nature. Bottom line is that I have not seen significant damage from them, and they seem fairly harmless. They may even eat some non-desirable critters like flys. No. I suspect they are after the insects. I looked it up and here is what I found at Live Science: "Diet Salamanders are carnivores, which means they eat meat instead of vegetation. They prefer other slow-moving prey, such as worms, slugs and snails. Some larger types eat fish, small crustaceans and insects. Some salamanders eat frogs, mice and even other salamanders." Linda
