Nah. My community thinks a group dinner is an opportunity for fundraising, so meals usually cost twice what they're worth for the food alone. :)

We have a few and have only taken advantage of them a few times. $2 taco night at the Elks (taco/ taco salad bar, make your own, all you can eat). $4 hamburger and salad night (comes with a little snack bag of potato chips) at the 40et8 Club once a month that benefits Cancer Society - that one is popular. $10 flat iron steak night (salad, baked potato, roll) at a middle-high restaurant....for a while. They were so swamped on that night they discontinued it. We'd reserved a table for more than 12, and more than once ;)

This year a popular restaurant has been offering a 'buy one, get one free' deal. It's for every day after 4pm, with a coupon that they put in the paper. The coupon expires in 150 years. :-)

All of their dinners come with salad or soup and dessert.

I more often than not get the chicken souvlaki.......2 skewers of grilled chicken with Greek salad, rice and choice of potato. I often get double the rice, but their home-fries are to die for. Also soup, garlic bread and I always pass on the dessert. Too darned full. The second meal is free.

We always tip for 2 meals. The waitress is doing the same amount of work.

No. They used to have a gumbo supper at the vol. fire department. I have tasted dish water that was better.

A semi-local bar has any of their 1/2# burgers & fries for $6 a few nights a week. A restaurant not too far from me has great breakfast specials. My favorite is the 2 eggs, choice of meat, toast and a huge portion of potatoes for about $7 now. It's gone up over the last couple years but still a great deal. Not dirt-cheap specials but the food quality at both these places is unsurpassed AFAIC so it's an extraordinary value. But another really good deal is Old Country Buffet's weekend breakfast for $4.99 (with a coupon that are almost always out there). While the beverage add-on is about $2.79 now, I often wind up getting orange juice, milk and finish up with hot tea and any other place, those beverages would cost in the area of $8-$9 by themselves so it's a decent deal that way. And you have the option to just have water at no charge. Food quality varies of course, but overall a really good deal. I like to go on Sundays and get there a little before the changeover. Get a little breakfast and then get some of the carved meats on the dinner menu. For $5 without beverage, that's a very good deal. I know a lot of people don't like buffets, but I do.

Not too far from here there's a little country store. On Fridays and Saturdays you can order a 16 oz t-bone or 12 oz ribeye, cooked the way you like it, with a baked potato for $7. It was $5.00 for a long time. They do an excellent job, too.

Hubby's brother-in-law's parents are first rate at knowing where all the FREE (or cheap) HOT DOG events are around town. The Mrs. told me they are getting fewer and farther between than even a few years ago, but she said they could usually find at least one or two free hot dog meals a month.

There's a movie theater near me that has $2 movies all day Tuesdays (all ages, not just seniors) . Yep, they get crowded. And my town has a Farmers Market in the Library parking lot every Sunday morning in the summer and fall.

No. My community is crazy expensive, is always crazy expensive, and has lousy service and a lazy workforce to boot.

The Main Street Christian Church has a free meal once a week and the public is always invited. I have never gone but I imagine it is good. Another church too has a free meal plus the Elks have specials now and then. I never go to any of them. Only one decent place to eat in town besides fast food, so have only been there once. Our volunteer fire department has a fish fry once a year. Our church has a chili supper with all you can eat plus peanut butter sandwiches, salad stuff and different desserts all for $5.00. Really good. I bake pies for it. I also bake pies for the volunteer fire department that is near our church when they have their fish fry once a year.

I guess if you look you can find some good things. No movie places here, have to drive around 20 miles to go to one.

Any Costco....hot dog and a drink for a buck fifty.

We have quite a few good local Mexican food trucks that feed you well for just a few dollars. At one time you could only see them near work zones during the day. Now they have regular places they set up for late night munching. It's almost 11:00 pm n here right now. If I wanted I could drive to at least 3 different sites in under ten minutes and get street tacos, burritos, a deep fried chicken quesadilla (weekends only) or Mexican hot dogs.

If you are lucky you sometimes see people selling fresh homemade tamales for next to nothing out of their vehicles in spots like Walmart parking lots. Not as often these days. Probably because they are being cracked down on.

A couple of towns away a bar has a chicken/steak BBQ on Sunday afternoons for 10.00. It's pretty much a biker day.

My "community" is pretty expansive. I spend a lot of time in several of the cities within a 40/50 mile radius of where I actually live. So my community is not always what some would consider local.

As Rhizo said, a Costco hot dog and Fries and free drink. Not your normal small hot dog, either.

Fries? At Costco? Not here, just the hot dog and drink. Our favorite Italian restaurant has 1/2 off on Southern Italian wines on Tuesday night.

No fries, sushipup? I made a mistake in my posting, the hotdog and drink is $1.50 and we always split an order of fries. A huge serving and delicious.

We don't have fries at our Costco. Pizza, a couple of different sandwiches, churros, various sweets. No fries. I bet they are good!
