my wordpad is stuck on my desktop

I have a day's work on my wordpad. Whenever the document goes into right side it sometimes gets stuck. I have to restart and then lose everything. Never cared before, but this time it is important that I don't. Nothing works, nothing moves. the mouse can't get it to do a thing. It happens when I click the X in order to save it. How can I get it to work so I can save it?

Could you copy-and-paste the contents of your document and then open Notepad and paste it in there for safe keeping while you get things sorted out? You would have to save it as a text document, so you would lose formatting. But the text itself would be saved and you could reformat later.

Alternatively, again just for safe keeping, if you really need to save the formatting, you could copy-and-paste it into an email message. Open Thunderbird or Outlook (if you have a desktop client) or even your webmail and open a compose window and paste it in there.

As for the problem of the program getting stuck, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for those more knowledgeable about such things. :-(

Are you saying it goes off screen to the right? if so then look for it/icon on taskbar, right click on the icon then click on move, then using arrow keys move it back onto your screen.

Thanks Owbist. Have been all over the Win 7 wallpaper, downloaded several of them from the internet. Put my personal pictures on there, too. Think this is my favorite part of all.I had bookmarked the Sevenforums when I first got it, but have not had time to go back and study it. There is so much to learn and while I don't post often, I read the Computer Forum daily. Everything I know has been learned on this forum.

WordPad Curious Problem

Followup: What I have found and probly my last post on this trivial problem. This is bottom on my list of things to worry about. Tops on my list of things to mess with It's totally crazy. If the CN 12pt underline fails and I open ANY window and slide it over the top of Wordpad the underline functions for that word. If I adjust the size of the Wordpad window the underline functions. My guess is the switch is stuck and needs a jolt of electricity. I tried a loud stream of the filthiest possible vituperation which didn't solve it but did cause my wife to turn up the TV volume, the dog to crawl under the couch and the cat made it to the top of the refrigerator in a single bound. :-)

Start Bar Stuck On

RANDY, when a pc starts to get slow after being on for a period of time that usually means something is using up the resources and not releasing them properly when they are shut down. First you need to check what all is on your start up list and see how many you can eliminate. Trim it down as much as possible. Also try to figure out which of your programs is using up the resources, you can do control-alt-delete to view the processes running and how much they are using etc to get some ideas. Another thing that causes that is a lot of spyware/malware on a pc. If you have not done a good antispyware scan I suggest you do so and make sure your antivirus program is updated and scanning a few times a week or daily. Here is a good free program to install and run for checking for malware. Choose the blue free download button, then be sure you update the program before scanning each time. This is an article that you might find helpful startup info Here is a link that might be useful: superantispyware

desktop icons highlighted?
Q

Is you computer trying to open all the programs of the icons? Where is the highlighting? I had all my icons get highlighted and start to open because my shift (I think it was shift, or something like that), key was stuck down. It wasn't stuck literally, but it was stuck from an internal/interface perspective, since I spilled coffee on my keyboard and it really messed it up as far as the way the keys worked. Could it be a keyboard issue like mine was? Or maybe a mouse interface issue? I dunno, because the "black" description seems confusing.

ten3_2tex, In Wordpad on my Laptop ( Windows 10) I have a Little Blue Square w/Smaller White Square Inside of the Blue Square in the Upper Left Hand Corner. That is supposed to resemble a Floppy Disk. If you Click on that Blue Floppy Disk it will Save your Documents! The First time you should be prompted to Name the Document.

BTW, I've never use Wordpad or Notepad, I have MS Office 2007 w/Word. Have no Idea whether or not Wordpad has that Blue Floppy Disk in older Versions of Windows or not? All of my computers are now on Windows 10, so I have no was to check. I do have Windows 7 on 1 computer but I gave my Son the RAM out of that computer. Need to pick up some new RAM for that computer before I can use it again!

Hope the above has helped!
