Leather Sofa/Couch Disaster - HELP!!!!
Comments (4)Call a professional and get a couple of quotes. You might be better off taking the cushion to them because these guys usually charge to come out to make a quote. Call and ask. I know because I used to repair leather. The colorant costs about $75 a quart and you have to mix it to get the right color. Also, there are different procedures for diferent types of leather. This is not a DIY repair, but if you want to try, there are several sites on the web that will explain how to do the repair and sell you the kit....See MoreNeed some advise on our leather couch...repair or buy new?
Comments (2)When I do frame repairs, I remove and replace, build up, or reinforce the parts of the frame that are broken. There is really no standard answer as it depends upon what is broken, how it is broken, and whether or not it can be easily removed. I usually try for "betterment" by replacing engineered wood with solid wood, weak woods with stronger ones, or convert simple planks into I-beams. It's doubtful they will rebuild the whole frame as this will involve re-upholstery and it would be cheaper to send you a new one....See MoreI impulse-bought a new sofa - now what? + leather care questions
Comments (4)Pretty sofa! And that is a small room. I'm sorry I can't offer any advice on layout. I struggle with that myself. I'm definitely challenged in the decorating department. I'm sure others will help you out. As far as cleaning your leather, there are many online resources that can help you. First of all you need to know what grade of leather you have. Full grain would be the top of the line, with varying grades down to bicast leather. Have you tried calling this company you linked to see what grade this is? Is there a tag on the furniture? I have had a full grain leather sofa, love seat. chair, and ottoman for about 20 years and it looks better now than when I bought it. (yeah, I know...matchey-matchey is a no-no) They say you shouldn't have full grain with children, but we have pets and grandchildren, and we have not been especially careful with it. Our leather furniture is not shiney, and is super soft. LOVE IT! The most comfortable seating ever! I clean with mild soap and water if something gets spilled, and occasionally rub it down with saddle soap. Don't know if that's an approved cleaning method, but it looks great after all these years. Comments (29)donnagwd, I call them muppet couches because of the overstuffed bulbous 80's shape to them. You could staple a thin scarf with pompoms on the ends for feet to the bottom of them and they'd look like they would just dance away in that crazed muppet way. golddust, they appear to be very well made. The frames are solid and heavy. The dust cover on the bottom is a nice heavy fabric, not just scrim. The previous owners replaced these with a leather sectional that their kids could climb and jump on with impunity. We have a rumpus room for such shenanigans. The LR is for entertaining my guests. The kids are allowed to play there, but high-spirited action is in the rec room....See MoreRelated Professionals
