Purple Ebb Tide vs. AngelFace Rec?
Comments (13)I agree that you are more likely to be successful with Ebb Tide because of the disease problems that Angel Face brings to the party. Angel Face is beautiful and fragrant and if I lived where BS wasn't an issue I would absolutely have it. It is superior to Ebb Tide in most areas to my eye, but that disease tendency is so bad it defoliates for virtually the entire year. I finally got rid of mine after it's third year when it was apparent the problem wasn't going to improve with plant maturity. Some roses actually do get more disease resistant with age. Ebb Tide is intriquing and sometimes frustrating. Ebb Tide can be beautiful, but can is the operative word. As the other said, it doesn't bloom nearly so nice in the heat of summer. They are smaller, lighter colored, and fewer in number. Sometimes the Spring flush puts out some--not all-blooms that have funny diamond shaped very small petals and it isn't attractive. On a spray, the petals are either all afflicted or not at all. Fall blooming is generally the best. Blooms are plentiful, good sized, deep purple, and fragrant. They make good cut flowers as well. When Ebb Tide is good, it is very good. But, sometimes it can be somewhat contrary to what I want my roses to do. Good Luck. Blessings, John...See MoreI think its Blue Angel

Comments (11)Heck, Don, what's another hosta more or less among friends? Go for it. But I was listening to your reason to make another choice. if they HAD been alike....my candidate for one that would also be different from Blue Angel. And that is Clear Fork River Valley. It is far removed from the sophisticated graces of Blue Angel, with its orderly tailored look. It is rough, Rambo with a three day beard, fast growing, apparently slug proof, a rather roundish leaf instead of the pair of blue angel wings. If you check the Hosta Library, the color of mine is like the 3d picture from the top, decidedly a blue tint. Nothing smooth about it. Crinkled up as much as broccoli! And mine is entering its 2nd year here in this picture. So. yeah, if Blue Umbrellas had been just like Blue Angel, ........ So....why not get Clear Fork River Valley too? Have all three. You know what they say about good things coming in threes.......See MoreDifference Between Elegans and Blue Angel?
Comments (5)Hey Con...I only divide in the Fall and actually I can't do it anymore. Lousy back. Son has to do it and it's a fight because he thinks he knows best and he maintains FALL. I say Spring. I did end up winning the argument a few weeks ago and he moved a HUGE Sum/Substance - the root ball was nearly 3 feet. He digs the entire rootball and puts it in a wheelbarrow....no shock. Doesn't even know it's been moved. Westy...See Moresunnywood4bChazyNY
