Are glass tile backsplashes high maintenance?
Comments (16)We have Sicis glass tile everywhere *but* behind the stove - I opted for sheet stainless there and I'm so glad I did. You can really see if you've gotten splatters up there and it cleans up so beautifully. TH\he tile meets it even with where the cabinets stop. We had a plexiglas backsplash (or you could get a tempered sheet glass backsplash) in our last house, and that was easily cleanable too. The *sheet* aspect is what makes it so easy, I think, because there 0% risk of anything soaking into any grout, even if it's sealed....See MoreTrendy v classic -- large tiles on floors
Comments (15)I agree with pbrisjar. If you want hardwood get it. I just went through this myself. I am going to continue the hardwood from the rest of my house into the new kitchen, and only do a small section of tile by the back door. II would suggest a nail down solid wood if you can, and finished on site. The prefinished is super easy to lay down, but overall an on-site finsih is so much more beautiful. Also, hardwood will really add to the value of your home- more than tile. Hardwood is also one of those "trendy and classic" at the same time materials. Another thought- it is much easier to stand on as it is much softer than tile....See MorePainting trim tan, rather than classic white....
Comments (15)Heylady, thank you for the site! Seeing the pics was great inspiration for me and helped with my decision. Eandhl, i'm not familiar with BM colors, but will get on line and check it out. Newhomebuilder, I thought white or stain trims were standard in Historical homes. Shows what I know. Patricia, I didn't mean 'hospital' white, but the creamy white you see in most homes today, but not an antique white. Most do seem to have a little yellow. Cindy, great room, and fantastic idea! It must look very dramatic IRL. I think you're right about a lighter color shortening the walls. Kim, I looked at all the rooms and all the draperies were hung higher. I like the idea, but touching the ceiling *is* a bit too high. LOL southernheart. Haven't watched it for years, but remember Mrs. Chancelor getting a face lift on national tv. I've always loved all the homes, including Nicki and Victor's. Maybe I need to tune in and check it out. I'm also one of those people who notice set design. I used to love the set for the old Bewitched series. Thanks everyone for helping with my decision. ;o)...See MoreAre white walls timeless or trendy?
Comments (15)Stop worrying and paint the entire home white! Classic, clean, beautiful. Highlights architectural features and artwork, as well as the shapes of your furniture pieces. And live plants look fabulous against white walls. There's nothing trendy about white. The only caveat is to use a lot of texture and organic materials for some contrast.
