Rice cookers and my big score
Comments (13)johnliu, I'm sure I'll be finding out, and I haven't made sushi in quite a while, now I need to get busy and make some. dcarch, I have no idea what those characters mean, I'm only assuming it's complimentary. (grin) As for the source of the auction items, the people who run it allow private sellers to take a photograph and write a description of their item to be auctioned, and the auction company keeps a percentage. I've seen items from a child's potty chair to tractors to "a box of awesomeness", LOL. It's easy to find, jnjonlineauction dot com. In addition to the private sellers, the company and/or agents/sellers buy estate items, store liquidations, the items in abandoned/unpaid storage units, etc. This week there are 2,000+ items up for auction and many of them are complete junk, many are firearms and ammunition, and a few are real gems. You sort through, their search is pretty bad... Annie...See Moreunder-counter venting for rice cooker?
Comments (12)I have a MAJOR mold allergy, so this isn't just a matter of aesthetics for me. In fact, when we moved into our previous rental I had discovered a plume of mold damage on the back wall and under the wall kitchen cabs. The owner then figured out that that was the location where she'd kept HER rice cooker for years and years. So I'm concerned, and I do pull the rice cooker forward as much as possible (on a 24" counter), but the front and bottom edge of the wall cabinets still get steamy (cabinet rail is 15" above counter). And, I just looked and there are brown condensation spots underneath the top cabinet, behind the light rail. Am I the only one?? For those of you with NO problems from the cooker, how far is its vent from your upper cabinets -- both horizontally and vertically? I've found 50-90CFM bathroom fans @ 0.3 sones. (0.5 is the sound of rustling leaves), so that's quiet enough. But it would be an under-insulated penetration in a (SF Bay Area) house we hope to have very insulated. However, it does seem like overkill, I recognize. That's why I'm posting here -- to get insights from wise folks who cook and who think deeply about kitchen usability....See MoreRice Cooker Recommedations Please
Comments (9)Which ever machine you choose, I'd also give her a copy of "The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook" by Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann so she can get even more use out of the rice cooker by cooking not just rice, but also other whole grains (making a wide variety of pilafs, risotto, polenta, chilis, soups, porridges, puddings, whole meals and more - from recipes in the cookbook). If you can locate the book at your local library (or through inter-library loan), there is a great deal of information about types of rice cookers, features, functions, etc., that would be helpful with your choice - so it will "fit" her needs....See MoreAnyone have a rice cooker that works for other grains?
Comments (20)I have several Aroma cookers, the multi cookers that cook a variety of rices and grains as well as slow cooker, soups, sauté and simmer where you can brown your meat and vegetables right in the same pot. I love them. My whole family has them. I just recently bought a new one that has all the options at Costco for under $40 which is a steal. There are many variations of these with different options. Never had a problem with any of them and I have had some for many years. I have cooked brown, white, and a multi grain mix all perfectly. I have not yet done oatmeal but my sister does. On the aroma site there's a lot of recipes. I cook full meals in them....See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
