Oncidiums haven't spiked yet for spring........:(
Comments (7)Some of my oncids are blooming now, one is in spike but it won't bloom for about another 3 weeks or so. Several haven't set spike, but I don't expect to see them until later....like maybe starting in late Feb./March...it really depends on the plant. Really, (and gosh...I'm beginning to sound like Uncle Howard), the trick to them is to make sure they get enough sun (and water...if you toast them without watering them enough it is a recipe for disaster.)....See MoreDying Dendrobium Flower Spikes
Comments (7)Hi ~ Here are some responses to the questions: For authurm: I don't have names for a couple because they were given to me by my mother, but the ones I do have are: - D. MME. Viray Bangkok Green - D. Savaya Red; and - D. Burana Sunshine Now, you have made me remember that I bought these from a guy who told me they were Thailand orchids. Would that make a difference? For howard_a : I grow all of my orchids outdoors. Some are tied to trees, but all of these are in pots. They get morning sun and then when the sun gets to the right spot, they are in bright shade. I believe Dendrobiums like a lot of sun and others that I grow in this spot don't seem to have a problem. We are in rainy season now, so I let Mother Nature do the watering ... since rainy season began, that is when almost all of the dendrobiums started shooting out flower spikes. Orchid126: As soon as I started to see the flower spikes, I did give them a dose of food. Do you think I over did it? Thanks all ......See MoreAnd so the show begins.....
Comments (32)So my lady bought me this beauty for V-day As I started taking it apart to fix it up, I noticed it has these things in it.... Not just in it, but JAMMED down into the growing heart of the plant. Who would do such a thing to these plants? I was absolutely livid. I'm not sure this thing is even going to grow correctly now? These things were in so deep I had to put a significant amount pressure on them to pull them out. You can still see the glitter all jammed up in it. This company is irresponsible and this should not have happened. Why put these into the plant when if need be you can put them into the medium? I finally got a different color phal and now it may not even grow correctly. What do you guys think? Do you think it will be okay in the long run?...See MoreOdd growth on Phal spike after blooming
Comments (9)The new roots are plump, they get a 1/4 cup water a week and then get the pot submerged in h20 with some 10-10-10 once a month or every other month if they don't look like they are growing. I haven't had this orchid very long so some things are old growth. I also since Jan have a humidifier in the small room as well and a pebble tray under an orchid nearby. I think my house is way too dry too. Since adding the humidifier I have had 3 different orchids start spikes, one of which is a miltonia....See Morecj_speciosa
