The Dirty Dozen
Comments (26)No, I don't wash coins or money, although I know they are very dirty, but I also don't put them into my mouth, it's not an equal comparison to something I eat. My lettuce doesn't get washed until I'm ready to use it, it lasts longer if it goes from the garden to the fridge and doesn't get washed until then. I do dry the leaves in my brand new salad spinner, a big OXO that I got at Goodwill for $2.99, the same time I bought Makayla her $8 bread machine. Bananas I don't eat at all, they are mushy and disgusting. Well, I will eat one if it's very green, very firm, sliced very thin and covered in Hershey's syrup, but that's the only way. Since I think most of the government safety guidelines are way past what it necessary, I figure if they say tap water is good enough, it most certainly is. If there was any chance, even the most miniscule, that tap water wasn't enough, there'd be warnings everywhere. That does depend, though, on whether or not your tap water is safe to drink. Comments (27)Ha, this 3-year-old thread just won't die. I posted above that I have the Bravos dryer with steam and wished I hadn't spent the extra money. Well, after trying the steam more often, I can now say that I'm glad I have it. My Bravos washer extracts so much water in the spin (even on low spin speed) that I like to add dryer steam to de-wrinkle. My Bravos set is 4.5 years old and going great. My daughter bought a TOL Bravos set earlier this year and is very happy. She does several loads of cloth diapers each week, in addition to regular family laundry. Her husband is a Marine and does his own laundry, you can imagine how dirty his uniforms are. They are very happy with their Bravos. I will add one other comment. My daughter didn't have time to research the new W/D set when she had to buy (cross-country move plus new medically fragile infant). What I (the designated researcher) found with this year's models is the TOL Waveforce doesn't have water heating on every cycle, the Bravos does. I continue to be mystified how some people have problems with the Bravos, while others (like my daughter's family and me) love theirs....See Morehint of the day feb 28 salt (long)
Comments (7)My grandmother used salt in another way. She was the dutiful wife of a sweet minister who, without consulting her, purchased and planted many various fruit trees in their back yard. Two were in the way of the wash line, or maybe the story was they were berry trees and the birds would stain the wash. Anyhow, she wanted them gone but did not have the heart to point out to her sweet husband the bad planning. So every time she went into the back yard, she put several handfuls of salt into her apron pocket and liberally sprinkeled the root zone of these two trees with salt. Before long, they died of some unexplainable blight, and grandma had her wash line to her liking....See MoreWhere do you drain your dishes - save my marriage!
Comments (49)I let things air dry in various places: everyday hand wash items (coffee pot, cat food dishes) -- when the DW is not full, I let things air-dry on the upper rack -- when the DW is full, I let things air-dry on a towel placed on the cooktop grates delicate stuff (knives, barware, china, aerokat) -- small quantities are hand dried -- large quantities air-dry in the dish rack with drain board that normally stays under the sink Then again, I don't live with anyone who cares where things dry out so long as they get their food, nibbles and treats....See Moredcarch7 d c f l a s h 7 @ y a h o o . c o m
