Interesting holly seedlings.

This summer I dug up a few seedling hollies coming up under my large Koehne holly. I am assuming these are progeny of the Koehne, since they look nothing like your typical American holly (which comes up all over the place), and they were coming up right underneath the Koehne -- but it's still a possibility the birds 'planted' them from another source.

There seems to be a variation in leaf coloration and spine direction in these two. I like the one with reddish new leaves. Will keep these indoors protected until they get large enough to plant out. I'll include a photo of the leaves of the assumed mother plant Ilex x koehneana. Its leaves are at least 4-5" long.

Here are the seedlings:

Here is what I assume was the mother plant -- Ilex x koehneana, a gorgous holly that outgrows Nellies Stevens and is much more desirable in my opinion.
