Sweet potatoes - Just harvested my first crop ever!

The Ozarks' soil being mostly clay and rocks, has always been difficult for root/tuber crops. Even with my raised beds, filled with compost, it's still a struggle for me. But I thought I would try sweet potatoes since my husband loves them. I bought six slips at Lowe's in July (I'm in z6B, so a bit late), didn't water - we usually have enough rain, but would water a bit more if conditions were the same. Harvested about a bushel - some very oddball shapes! From an area about 3' x 7'. Will try again next year with some modifications - mound up the soil, start a bit earlier. They are Beauregard variety. Some plants produced zero tubers, a couple of the plants produced the largest quantity, don't know why... Just letting them cure for a couple of weeks, then storing in the storm cellar/ root cellar/pantry storage. FUN!
