Mulch Pile Plant VS Containers
Comments (3)It is forever tempting to compare growing in the soil in the garden with growing in containers. The conditions are so different a comparison is meaningless. As we accept this and concentrate on how to best meet the needs of the plant in our care, confined to a container, we will be rewarded. I can give dozens of examples in my own growing yard, of plants in nursery pots, neglected, having grown through the drain holes, through the landscape fabric into hard earth. These plants put on such a spurt of growth they are easy to pick out from hundreds of pots. Al...See Morepiles of mulch at end of rows - no mulching backwards
Comments (5)I have basically the same mower, a 10684, and have only noticed a similar, but not as severe, result when mulching over 1" of cuttings at full speed. I cannot rationalize the apparent fact that other mowers you've used do not do this. Have you made sure the deck is reasonably clean and the blade sharp? I just went out and looked at mine, and it has the same 'cut' in the front of the deck, about 5/8". This is probably there to help grass get under the deck without being forced down, for better cutting. It's also possible the governed engine speed is a little slow. I would be looking for at least 3200 RPM. Just some stray thoughts....See MoreMulch in Compost pile?
Comments (7)May I make a small point? You all know that 'mulch' doesn't necessarily mean wood chips, right? Mulch means something you put on your ground to suppress weeds, keep moisture from evaporating as quickly, and to keep soil cool. So, while I know that a lot of people automatically realized that you used the word 'mulch' when you really meant wood chips, I thought, "Why would anyone put 'mulch' on their compost pile? How odd." If I had a pile that I wanted to take a looong time to break down, I'd put wood chips in it. But I can't imagine any reason that I'd want a pile to take a long while to break down. Maybe if I was going to jail for a long time and I didn't want anyone pilfering my compost in my absence. I can see that. I wouldn't turn any wood chips away, mind you, but I sure wouldn't put them in any pile I hoped to get compost out of in the next two years or more. I'd start a separate wood chip pile....See MoreRed Brandywine in Mulch Pile
