Update on my town home hunting adventure

Thought I would give an update since you all have been so helpful in providing feedback on lower level laundry rooms and potential move to an area with higher crime rate.

So we decided to keep looking not to pursue the place that involved those issues. Last week we found a place online that we decided we should look at. Had the showing this week on Tuesday, made an offer on Thursday and it's a done deal today. Whew - and the closing is 10/22. We will put our current place on the market after we move to the new place - with just enough stuff to get by since our current house will look better with furniture, rugs, etc.

We have a weekend/future retirement lake home and just bought a different one and moved into that in June. Our house in the "city" is on a lovely, private, wooded lot. Our old lake home wasn't - our new one is. So we no longer "need" the home in the woods in the city. I have been looking at townhomes online for a couple years but we just started looking in person after June. We looked at about five places - all quite different. The last one was it. You know how you have that feeling when you walk into a place and you think - this is it!! I thought that when I saw the pictures online and confirmed in person.

Much as I have loved my current home in the woods for the last 23 years (with beautiful kitchen we did ten years ago) I'm really looking forward to the change. We have a busy, full life and no longer have the interest in outdoor work around the house that we once did. Time to move on and let someone else enjoy our house in the woods.

Oh wow! Congratulations Gibby! I remember the kitchen reno, hard to believe it's 10 years already! You really do know the one when you find it. Isn't it funny how that happens? Maybe that's probably why you were so hesitant to pull the trigger on the other place. So....just out of curiosity, where is the laundry situated? LOL

Good luck with the HOSP's. I have taken 15 so far this year. I was using an elevator trap past years, works great but catches everything from chipmunks to native birds. It is invaluable to catch juvenile HOSP's however. I've now switched to a Crosman .177 pellet gun. It works and surprisingly, the HOSP's must know they are the target. I hardly get them anymore. I get every other native bird at my feeders, but HOSP's which pollute our neighborhood rarely land in our yard. They fly in and around, but I haven't taken a bird since February this year.

LOVE TJ, and Homegoods. I have noticed location is key. When I lived in Boston, I thought the TJ's had a terrible selection of HomeGoods and clothing. But in the Midwest, it rocks. Seriously good finds. St. Louis Park in MN is one of the few that has a dept. called Runway and they always have Chloe, Theory, Nanette Lepore, Marc Jacobs, Alice plus Olivia, Tracy Reese, Trina Turk, etc. Designer jeans of all brands too. Hudson, Rock, Seven, Citizens, Current Elliot, William Rast. But yes, back to the HomeGoods:) I have purchased many many pieces of furniture there. Some of which I have seen on Horchow. I have a Ralph Lauren coffee table in my Living Room right now that is from there. Can you tell I'm a fan??? I swear I have no affiliation with this company:) Just a really frequent shopper. Too frequent, according to my husband. It's actually getting a little embarrassing.... I go in to my local TJ's now and they recognize me and have asked me on more than one occasion if I'm a designer. The last time this one lady saw me and asked if I wanted to go in the back room because they just got a new shipment in that they hadn't taken out to be displayed! Yikes.

My parents' house (the home I grew up in) is very much like this. Built around 1890. They purchased from the grandchild of the original family that built it, and then my parents lived there 35 years, so unbelievably, we are only the 2nd family to own it! My parents lovingly cared for every single inch, and made significant modern updates without sacrificing the integrity of the gorgeous woodwork. Put in central air, but kept the original radiator heat & they remodeled the kitchen to perfection. When they decided to move, the whole family cried. I'm not kidding. A house like that just becomes like another family member. Getting to retirement age, and the detached garage and 2 stories is just going to start getting to be too much. BUT my point is. It is for sale for less than 1/2 the price of the home OP showed. Midwest area small town. And they haven't been able to sell it in well over 6 months. Lots of lookers and everyone loves it, but people just want new now. The level of appreciation for the quality just isn't recognized here. It just breaks my heart.

Sorry I'm late to the party. I tried a lot of vegetarian "bacons" for BLT's and determined they are just not worth it. I eat real bacon on those. If I was a strict vegetarian I would eat a BLT with avocado and thinly sliced swiss cheese or smoked gouda or smoked provolone instead of the bacon, because there really is no substitute for that in a sandwich. For salads and soups, when I want a bacon flavor and texture I use Bacos fake bacon bits. Another option, is hickory smoked salt. That's good if the flavor seems bland.

It's a three bedroom walkout detached town home on a golf course. DH swore up and down that he didn't want to be on a golf course but changed his mind when we started looking. It has a little pond/water hazard in back that I kind of like. It will be different for us to drive down our street and every house looks exactly the same. DH said he could get confused and end up in the wrong house. Here are a few photos from the listing.

Congratulations! I felt the same way about my old house, I just walked in to look at it and I thought, "This feels like home." I was hesitant to buy a row house, but as I looked through it I checked off all my "must have's" and a few extras. I never regretted not having a big yard to take care of. I'm still looking for another house to buy after a relocation. I want a big house with a SMALL yard. So far nothing has spoken to me strong enough. A condo is the way to go if you are busy and don't want to fuss with the yard. I hear ya on the sameness though, I look at some condos and think, "If I came home drunk some night it would be pretty easy to pick the wrong house." (Just kidding, I don't even drink!) But you can probably put your little unique touches on the entry without breaking the association rules! The setting and architecture looks very nice. The inside is stunning!! What a great backyard view too!
