White counter top pricing

Hi! We're redoing a bath in our home and I have a new plain white counter top in mind for the existing vanity. The top needs to be 50"x22" with holes drilled for a widespread faucet and an undermount sink. I went to Lowes and couldn't find anything plain white without marbling or an integral sink built in. They said they don't do quartz or Corian in that smaller size. Home Depot said they have a plain white cultured marble for about $400, but I don't think cultured marble is what I'd like. I called a local granite and marble company and they quoted a Corian Level 1 white with a standard edge for $1,300 and said white marble will be $5k+. I'm quite surprised since this is a relatively small counter top. Does this pricing seem correct? Does anyone have any suggestions?

It appears that the local granite and marble company quoted you for an entire slab plus fabrication when you can get by with using a remnant for that size of counter. Consider going to the company and looking for scrap, then asking for a price. Also, you can find a local Quartz dealer here: www.cambriausa.com

You can get an online quote from cafecountertops.com, which is where we ordered our 82 inch by 52 inch 40 mm (1.58 inch) thick walnut island top. If you are near an Ikea, check out their offerings. Each store is different (I think) in the counter brands (other than the Ikea products) that they offer, but when I was looking, there was a nice savings over the big boxes and other sources for the same product. Also, Menard's seems to have better sale prices for their brands of counters, but my local one doesn't offer installation.

Still obsessively think about some. depends on a house of course..I'm lucky to have a house that beg for tiles. And I myself am a tile person. And a pattern person. So we met each other. @kel_kat5 - It is a mistake to think that Dayana’s situation is representative of granite counters. Most importantly, the Bahamas White granite she pictured looks like it’s in the family of the Imperial White or Kashmir granites, which is notorious for behaving more like marble and staining easily because it is more absorptive than other granites, I.e. porous. If one is looking for a granite with a white background, check out the granites in the family of Alaska White, White Springs, Bianco Delicatus, and Lennon, which are pretty bullet-proof. I’ve had different granites in different homes, and none even needed sealing, and were carefree, and we didn’t baby them. There are a thousand granites out there, and they should not all be lumped under the same umbrella. Quartz is a great choice if you want a more uniform appearance to your counters. There are stories on this forum of Quartz staining, scorching and chipping, and having resin pools. I actually think Quartz is a wonderful choice for counters. But get it for its appearance and beauty, not because you think it is more durable than granite.

Lowes around us does have quartz. They are doing our bathroom and I am getting a grayish quartz. I don't know if they have completely white quartz. We had them do a rectangular undermount sink. Ours is 40" and cost about $950. Our 1980's house had cultured marble so you may not want that as an update.

call around. The local place I just dealt with offers vanities 50" and smaller (or maybe it was 60"?) from remnants with sink included and holes drilled for $500. I got a beautiful piece of white frosty carrera (caesarstone?) for our vanity.

If you can't find a remnant, Hanstone offers 1/2 slabs which might work for you.

We used Denver Bath and Granite 4 Less a few years ago when we redid our guest bath. All of our vanities are custom made by PO and of course none in standard sizes. DBG4Less (now apparently a new website nestappeal.com) trimmed a stock-size granite top to fit our offset-sink odd-width vanity that we took home to install. They ship but we live in northern NM and were visiting Denver to check out a jet tub anyway so we went to their shop. Viewed, selected, they trimmed it, we put it in our minivan and off we went, all in one afternoon--pretty nifty! We were DIY and so attaching the sink and installing the top was fine with us. They now look to have many more sizes, even for our other odd size vanities, and more material selection.

I have no affiliation with this company and am just relating our experience with them, thought it might provide you with an option to check out.
