Metal in contact with container soil question

I have a very large vining plant
that needs to be repotted. I need to have the plant supported and plan to use a
sycamore branch that has been seasoning in dry storage for two years. I was
going on making tool handles with it but plans change.

It is a large plant (Monstera) with
large leaves and lots with aerial roots and is difficult to repot so I would
like to build a metal frame to support the branch above the soil so the wood is
not in contact with the soil to avoid it rotting in a couple of years and have
to start over.

I have some Aluminum scraps (6061
grade) that I can weld together easily enough but is aluminum in long term
contact with soil toxic to plants?

If it is, could I use steel or
stainless steel, I have seen planters made of cold rolled steel in the past,
but I have the aluminum already available.

Anyone know
the pros & cons of each of these materials?
