Comments (6)Rita, when I have a lot of beets for canning, I only follow the very approved recipes for that, I think I have most canning books at home. But when I have small amount of beets, I make a small batch for the fridge and don't really have to be too careful as in canning, also make a salad with oranges and calamata olives, California blood oranges are in season now. Raw beets in a salad in small amounts is fine, if they are thinly sliced or shredded but just in case I wouldn't give it to small child or an older person because they maybe have problems eating them. I like to use all the parts of the vegetable if I can, and this recipe is good for that, you can use the beets and the leaves, any color beet will do. I have candy cane beets now and I will use those, if you want a quick pickle Jamie Oliver makes some good ones for the fridge. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/12545-golden-beet-and-beet-greens-salad-with-yogurt-mint-and-dill...See MoreBrown splotches on baby avocado?
Comments (1)google the symptoms for the older leaves and they will tell you what are the possible causes, excess or too little minerals, water, etc. I encountered the same as you for one of my plant, I messed it up with the calcium to magnesium ratio by playing around with calcium chloride and epsom salt. Dont do it! Use a complete fertiliser or check out AI's advice in the container gardening thread of using such fertiliser, garden lime and good 511/gritty mix. also to take note to flush the soil every now and then of the built up salts and minerals from fertiliser as avocado is very sensitive to chloride and salts....See MoreHelp! My indoor baby avocado tree is not happy :(
Comments (5)Your plant is doing extremely well considering it is eventually doomed (insufficient light and air circulation is the usual problem for indoor avocados). Just keep doing what you're doing and enjoy it while it's there and see how long you can keep it going. BTW seedling avocados can take up to ten years to produce any fruit....See Moreeasternmtn(7)
