The hottest new European kitchen trends
Comments (7)Thanks for the link nosoccermom. Very interesting. The notion behind the quote below about the absence of upper cabinets in Europe stroke me as ironic: "While this trend is very popular in Europe, it still remains to be seen whether it can make its way into the North American kitchens, where upper cabinets are still loved and very much seen as a necessity." Ironic, or incongruous, as space is tight in Europe, homes and kitchens are smaller, and if any kitchen truly needed uppers, you would think in would be European kitchens. We have all the space in the world in North America, and most have huge homes and kitchens. But uppers are viewed as a necessity. Go figure....See MoreTell me your prediction for the next big kitchen style trend??
Comments (37)I would think during a recession, people focus on saving money. Say not eating out to save money. Making the kitchen more important than ever. Buying things in quanity when they go on sale. So storage space or pantry's would be a high priority. Children are living at home longer and multiple generations are living together now. You may need 3 or 4 microwaves to accomodate ALL those people. Dinning rooms, breakfast bars, dens and livingrooms may become obsolete. A kitchen with a BIG eating area doubling as a livingroom would be the new trend. Recycling as the worlds population grows may become more than "the right thing to do". Maybe it would be a law, to sort your trash before it could be picked up? So multiple trash bins, say 5 or 6 might be incorporated as a "new" trend? OR....maybe they will develop a trash zapper. It would zap the trash like on star trek into another dimension.....:0) We would all need one of those!!! lol...See MoreNext Kitchen trends?
Comments (123)Back to trends - I would like very much to see a trend in induction cooktops/ranges. Whenever the subject comes up, I tell everyone to get an induction cooktop/range, and everyone I know who has is happy. (Fortunately, no one I know has yet had a lemon experience, unlike the poor person whose GE crapped out in May and GE still didn't repair or replace it by July. For shame, GE. But "one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl.") I understand if you can't afford one, and I understand if you prefer to cook on gas, and I definitely understand if you experience a lot of power outages where you live, but I'm hoping that induction will eventually catch on as it has in Europe. And not just among the kitchen intelligentsia on Gardenweb....See MoreTREND prediction in flooring
Comments (3)but now there is a new cool kid in town. I have to correct you, sorry. The resurgence of Marmoleum for kitchen floors gained popularity at least 10 years ago. Like any kitchen floor, it has its pros and cons. I'll link a thread from 2010 with currently 176 posts: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/marmoleum-who-has-it-who-loves-it-and-would-you-do-it-again-dsvw-vd~2694880...See Morefeisty68
