Genteq EVERGREEN IM ECM blower motor

Background: Our AC started underperforming about a month ago. Adding refrigerant didn't help. The unit (APCO) was installed sometime around 1980-1981(!!!). When we bought our house 3 years ago, we were told it was approximately 23 years old (which is already really old for AC). It turned out to be a little older.

We have an single stage oil furnace (Metzger) that was installed in 2003.

We want to replace our AC unit with a Heat Pump. I really would like a 2-stage heat pump. I've been told that a 2-stage heat pump won't be as efficient with a 1-stage heating system. Fair enough. But I figured there had to be a solution out there that could marry the two. So I did some research and came across the Genteq Evergreen IM ECM blower motor. From their website:

"Designed to replace direct-drive blower motors in
residential and light commercial indoor furnaces,
air handlers, and package systems that were
designed with a 6-pole 1075rpm rated PSC motor."

"Ready for connection to existing fan relays or
circuit boards with 42” harness. No additional
relays or components required."

Cool. So it will at least replace my current blower motor.

In the installation manual, there are diagrams for wiring a single stage heating system with a 2-stage cooling system.

It sounds like it will work. What am I missing? Has anyone else done this?

Thanks!

J
